I would. Years ago when I lived in London and came home for Christmas we had one year when we had our Christmas day on Christmas Eve so that we could have a full "boxing day" before I went home on the 26th for work the next day.

Christmas is the people around you. It's not one day. We had it early or late when I was a kid (Dad in RAF and away/on duty) - and it really didn't make a difference.

    Go for it.
  • My dad always worked on Christmas day - 12 hours from 6 till 6. We always were allowed to open our stockings and had 1 present to open which was always something that would keep us occupied until he came home.
  • i slipped by chance i am so happy

    Christmas is a special time,

Would you work on Christmas day.

I have been asked to work, The offer is

Double Time = £32 an hour

    £100 Bonus

2 Extra Days holiday for later in the year

So 8 hour day is worth

    £100 + £256 + (£128 + £128 value of 2 extra days holiday at normal wage)

So realistically £612 for leaving OH and Kids to look after Christmas lunch themselves I would be in work from 8am to 4pm

Never done this before so what do you think, Am I letting my family down, or should I grab the cash and buy them all a nice treat!!!!!

I definitely would as your children are older

that could pay for / towards a nice little holiday in the New Yr / feb half term etc :)

We have only worked once on xmas day and what was 2003 when we were running a pub

we were open 12pm - 2pm and took just over 1k in that time !
which we used to take a well earned family holiday in Spain at the end of jan!

I would actually do some sort of charity work on xmas day,and may look into it for next year
  • no and i am so happy
  • Gosh you own £16 an hour >>!!<< Sense my envy haha!! Just out of curiosity what do you work as ?

I think that working christmas day is a personal choice but for me early morning and evening are the best bits and you'll be home for them so i'd be inclined to say yes.
    Merry Christmas MSE!

Some people have to work it, I have, I used to be a home carer.

You'll be finished at 4pm, so you still have a good part of the day, you aren't abandoning your family at all. I know money isn't everything but it is quite a good deal. If your children were younger I might think differently.
