I haven't worked Christmas Day for a few year but this year I have hit it really unlucky - I am nightshift Christmas Eve (dont finish til 8am) so will be sleeping most of Christmas Day, and then nightshift Christmas Night aswell.
My brother and his wife have decided to come home for Xmas this year and wanted a big family party but were sorely disappointed to find out that Dad is working dayshift, I am nightshift (Turkey dinner for breakfast and not a single glass of wine) and my sister is away. So much for the party!

I would never work Christmas Day! *

When my parents ran a restaurant we all worked Xmas day together! We were paid double and as student it was very lucrative.
But when my siblings and I started on 5 day week, 9-5 jobs ourselves we asked them not to open Xmas day as we didn't get much time off work. So it stopped then.
What I hated were the people still there at nearly 7pm when they had come for Xmas lunch. Push off home and let us have our dinner now please!!
(I'd work for £610! now tho)Grocery challenge July £250

I'll be working xmas day. Being in the emergency services I don't have much choice. It would be fantastic if I could get paid £610 for the pleasure (still I can always dream about that).
Just to rub salt in the wounds I'll also be working xmas eve, boxing day and new years eve & day. I think I'll celebrate my xmas this year on the 3rd Jan....My £2 savings total for 2007 = £92, for 2008 = £124
My savings from money off coupons for 2007 = £67.97, for 2008 = £194.79
My £2 savings for 2009 (so far) = £130
My savings from money off coupons for 2009 = £593.08

I always refused to work it when my son was small but now he's older if I was in the same job I would. It always worked out the the staff with kids took off Christmas and did the New Year shifts instead as they were generally more important to the staff without kids.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I would say in princaple i would work if my kids were older like yours are. As When I was a teen i spent most of it in my bedroom anyway.
We have a 2 year old and a 4 year old and dont open most of how presents till after dinner around 4 or 5 oclock anyway. As I dont want to miss it by being in the kitchen of the cooking the dinner.
We have our friends over christmas afternoon one works for the London ambulance Service and doesnt finish till 6 oclock so we will have a lovely evening instead. Then boxing day we will do it again for my friend that works.
Have a chat to your family and as long as they are happy and you are happy I would go for it. You finish at 4 so you will still get the evening.0 -

I'm rostered on for working 0700 - 1900, but fortuantely have managed to get the day off (although this can be cancelled if they are suddenly short) I wouldn't take the money now as I have young children, but if they were older I definitely would given the amount of debt I'm in.
