Never, I don't like any job enough to work Christmas Day.

I'd work any other day of the year - including nights on NYE etc as they don't matter to me - but I absolutely love Christmas - you can't better it :)

That's for me though - for yourself the money is absolutely fantastic and if it was any other day of the year i'd jump at it! It's what feels right for you and your family that matters.

I think you should work it in the past I have always worked xmas day although to be fair I did the 6pm - 2am shift then my OH would take my DD to his mums so it worked out pretty well for us think of the money and you could treat the family to some nice treats in the sales. Your kids are at an age where xmas prob is not as exciting as it used to be and they will be fine with their day ;)

Not for me unless I worked in medical or other emergency services. Personally I can't get these days back. This is not meant as pressure just another point of view. We have to do what is right for our family not anyone elses. Whatever you decide enjoy the time together as a family.

Christmas doesn't have to be just one day, how about pressies on Christmas Eve and then the big turkey dinner in the evening of Christmas Day. If the children have already opened their presents the night before they'll just spend the day with them and the you can spend the evening together. Besides it'll be fun for them to cook and get things ready for you, and the money will be a bonus for everyone!
I did the same thing a while back and it worked wonderfully (Children 13 & 10). I enjoyed the festivities even more after not having to prepare them!

Whatever you decide to do - feel happy with your choice and move on.... don't regret your decision:A
  • I did it 5yrs running, the extra money was nice but missing out having a proper family get together wasn't fun.

  • Like others have said it does depend on your job and your family.

I used to work christmas day before I had my children. It was a choice made because others that I worked with had small children and I thought they would benefit more. It was a little lonely as I worked in a hospital switchboard by myself and the door had to be kept locked for security reasons. I was home for just after 3pm though and my mum had cooked the dinner - yum!!:D

Have a happy christmas whatever you decide.

I would work Christmas day if the money on offer was decent enough.

That said, I'm not religious, so the day doesn't really mean very much to me, apart from presents, and you can open them on any day you prearrange with your family first. :)
