Hmmm I have a 4 month old and 4 and a half year old. Yes, it's a special time but I just asked OH this and we both agreed we'd probably work it if offered, as £356 and two days holiday is a nice amount, and hey you could make it an extra special Boxing Day?
We're having our own Christmas Day on Boxing Day this year as we're in Manchester on Christmas Day but leaving most of the chrimbo pressie sat home, so I guess we're already mentally prepared for not having the 'usual' Christmas Day this year anyway.April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -

I have small children, but I have no choice in the matter. And I won't be getting anything near what you will get, so I say go for it!
I will miss my kids opening their pressies, but I do go back to my house if I have half hour. That way I get to see the kids, and they get to see the Ambulance, which always makes their day.
We leave a few gifts for Boxing day, I love it as I get to see the kids open a few of their pressies. It's like an after Christmas Christmas!
If your kids are anything like mine (6-10) then you'll be able to see them open presents BEFORE you go to work. I think last year it was 4.30 they bounced in to tell us Santa had been:rotfl:
@ Vicky Hurn
Seriously though I have had to work Christmas quite a few times in the past (Airport worker) and personally although it's not so bad once you're there I'd still rather be with (some) of my family;) For me New Year's is different especially since I gave up the booze am happy to work it.
Really it's a case of how it fits in and is it optional. To be honest I think the worst place to be working over the Christmas period is a shop! I've done that too and no way would I do it again:mad:
Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a joyful Christmas :A0 -
lol @ brucie - my sister woke me up at 2:30 one year to tell me santa had been. It wouldn't have been so bad, but she was about 18 at the time... j/k but she was about 11/12!
Personally, for me at the moment I wouldn't do it as I have a 16 mo daughter, but if she were the same age as your children, I would definitely do it. Especially for that amount of money!
Good luck if you do

hi i have in time gone by worked on xmas day in pubs & clubs yes double or triple time & 2 leiu days are very tempting & who can afford to turn £600 down at anytime of the year let alone just after xmas ( payday) but unfortunatley i have found that the amount of extra tax i paid on that day wasnt worth it,im not sure but i reckon roughly out of £614 you should clear after tax & ni £384 ish a nice wage for one days work & on the up side you do have 2 days in leiu.0

I would work it!
I work every Christmas Day - I have to in my line of work - I am a nurse.
If you stop to think about it, there are loads and loads of people who work Christmas...
...and after all, Christmas is just another day (well, to me it is...)
We are having our 'Christmas Day' on Boxing Day (although hubby is working part of that day!!!)
Eight hours out of one day leaves 16 left to celebrate...ok, you have to sleep lol, but you could spread the festivities over a couple of days.
yes you and me both:coffee:0 -
It's really interesting reading what everyone else does christmas day - those that have to work, those that choose to work, those that would love to work!!
It has reminded me of my boss - he's a vet with his own business. He worked christmas day every year for over 30 years until he took on a younger partner who offered to do the christmas day shift. The next time I saw the boss I asked if he'd enjoyed his christmas day off - he said he'd washed up - slightly confused with where the conversation was headed I politely said I thought he had a dishwasher. He admitted he did but was so used to working christmas day he'd needed to do something so had settled on the washing up!!:D"all endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time..."0 -
Wish I got extra money for working Christams Day. As a serving member of the RAF I will be at work Christmas day, and for not much money either.....around £80 for the day, my normal wage.
Ohh how I wish we got overtime sometimes. But never mind, we all have a job to do.0 -
I'll be working Christmas. As a Prison Officer I'll be looking after Britains finest in exchange for my normal pay. I dont mind really, got boxing day to spend with family. We do make the best of the situation on Christmas day...0

I agree mate, you have to make the most of the situation. We do have a laugh at work too, so not all bad.0

Vicky, I think you have made right decision to work it. When you think about 1 day work would practically pay for the whole of chrimball, so great money saving work!
I am working for a agency this year and its on the community, so I will only be working on 3rd jan for one day over the hols, which is good, but then again I don't get paid if I don't work, so it does have its disadvantages, but being off for nearly two weeks with ds2 and oh is defintely worth it.
love dorry x'If you judge people, you have no time to love them'
