It's payday!! 😀
Me and BF are still in bed, we're having a lazy day before a trip out over the weekend. BF has been getting up at 4:30am to start work at 5:30am to get some overtime in and of course, once he's up there's no way I'm getting back to sleep, so I think we deserve a rest. I've logged into the mortgage and the interest has been added on, the total is £63,995.27. I've just made an overpayment of £195.27 to take me back down to £63,800. Once the normal DD has gone out next week, I'll make another overpayment.
Not a lot else to report really, I've put £200 in savings to start getting the EF back up to £5k, although I'm still thinking I should be putting more into it as opposed to overpaying the mortgage due to the current climate and threat of a second wave of Covid-19. 🤔Mortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.
Starting Mortgage Balance (June 2019) £72,000.

The EF is a tricky one isn't it? How long would £5k give you and do you think you would find something else in that timescale should the worst happen?Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Haha! Us MFWs know each other so well, SC! 😂
It would take me about 4/5 months to save up the £5k EF on my own.
BF has just over £2k saved so that together with the savings I already have is £4.5k and would see us through 6 months if we were both to lose our jobs because we work for the same company. If we were unemployed as well as looking for I job I could stream my video gaming more, which would give a bit of extra money each month. I think on the whole we're in a good position, I guess I just want it to be better to be on the safe side!Mortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.

That's a great position to be in then! It's a matter of personal choice really, I had £10k but now I've sat down and really crunched the numbers, I've realised I could live quite comfortably on £8k for 6 months, so that's my "safe" number now. Different strokes for different folks and all that 😀 It's all about what will make you sleep at night!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Oh, and knowing I can hack another chunk off the amount needed in an EF once the mortgage is gone is making me very motivated as well!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Thanks SC. I think what I'm working on is bare minimum, so I think I need to add a little extra to the total for comfortable living! 😀
I have made a good start this morning though. I've booked a slot for the shopping for next week but instead of just picking my favourites and usuals, I went through each section and picked cheaper items and saved myself £10! I've also taken water, gas and electric meter readings. The water meter reading has put my DD down by £6 already and that's just from having the new boiler for a couple of weeks! I'm hoping if we're sensible with the water we can get it down even further in the next month or so. Electric and gas, I am yet to see the affect but fingers crossed that will be reduced as well.
BF went into work for 5:30am this morning, they were offering a days pay and time and a half as well! He did 4 and a half hours, so that'll be a nice amount at the end of the month. He says he will go in the rest of this week at 5:30am as well and save all his overtime pay. I think a new car might be on the cards soon, his current one is getting on and parts are harder to come by. I can't say I'd miss it, it's a sports car, very low down and as a lady over the age of 30, I'm not as limber as I used to be so getting in and out is difficult to do with much dignity 😂
With BF off to work, I found myself getting up at 6am, ordering the shopping, walking the dogs, washing the towels, cleaning out the budgie, taking all the meter readings, cleaning the house, emptying the bins, making the salad up for tea and then cooking brunch for when BF got home. I can now sit and do nothing for the rest of the day! 😀
Have a lovely bank holiday Monday! XMortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.

What an amazing journey you've been on.If it's not adding up, compound it!3 -
It's the weekend again! Yay! Time does seem to be flying by!
I've logged on to the mortgage this morning and it currently stands at £63,400, with the monthly DD down to £331.31. I'm happy with the progress and on track to reach my target of being under £62k by the end of the year. My super target is to be under 60k by the end of the year but we will see.
Work has been pretty awful the past couple of weeks and I've had two customers in the space of a week shout and swear at me. I very nearly walked out and me and BF had an emergency meeting to look at the finances to see if we could survive on his wage combined with using my savings until I found another job, it's doable. I thought things would get better with the office move and new boss but it seems that me and the colleague who moved with me are just getting more work and we can't keep up with it all. We had a meeting with new boss and told him what for and that we were both considering handing our notice in. New boss said all the right things but actions speak louder than words. I'm giving it until Christmas to see if anything does change. In the current climate I'm reluctant to just jack it in but there is only so much you can take before it affects your health.
In more positive news, BF was looking in the cupboard where we keep the cookbooks and found a £30 N3xt voucher I got for my birthday in June and that I completely forgot about! I don't know how it ended up in there but I shall look at spending it this weekend.
BF is still looking at getting a new car and has settled on two models he likes, he is now ready to test drive them to make a final decision. He even made a spreadsheet to work out his budget, bless him! 😂
