Thanks SC. I can see how it would! Where do they put everything and do they use it all?! Luckily bf is on the same page as me and all we want in life now is a nice little house with a garden and to save money for retirement! He does spend a lot on his son for birthdays and Christmas but he says it's because since we've been together he's never been in such a good financial position to buy his son presents, so he's making up for when he couldn't! He does have a nice stable job at the same place as me now but I don't think boyo cares about the presents he never got, just that he gets to spend time with his dad!
Thanks NG and I completely agree. My colleague went down to 4 days a week for a trial period when she came back off furlough so she could spend more time with her family and is now fretting they'll put her back up to 5. So many studies have shown that employees working 4 days a week are happier and more productive. Surely lowering people's hours (and pay obviously) would be more beneficial to getting rid of people altogether and putting extra stress on the ones that are left and don't have enough time to complete the work 🤷Mortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.

Just logged into the mortgage and my normal monthly amount has come off, new total is £64,215.31. I've done a small payment of £15.31 to round down to £64,200. Now I just have to be patient until I get paid on the 28th August and can make a £1k overpayment. That's not going to be easy with my track record of surprise OPs 😂Mortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.

Another week done and dusted! 😀
The mortgage balance is £64,200. I'll be making another small payment when the interest is added on towards the end of the month.
I'm starting to think that the money in savings towards my £1k mortgage overpayment next month is better off going into the EF fund. The rise in covid cases around the world and threat of a second wave in winter has me thinking that maybe I should keep hold of it for the time being in case we end up in lockdown again. Maybe half and half is the best compromise 🤔
Boyo was brought here by BF's parents on Thursday afternoon, on their way back from spending a few days with BF's brother (social distancing seems to have gone out the window for them) I was relieved that they didn't try to hug me, BF or my parents who were kind enough to host a bbq for them. We now have boyo for 2 weeks so my shopping bill has gone up and with him being a teenager so will my electric and water bill!! But BF is happy to see him again and that's all that matters 😀
I'm having my haircut for the first time since February today! I'm going to get her to cut a good chunk off with this hot weather. I'll be wearing my mask and she's not allowed to blow dry it, which is fine because I live across the road so can dry it as soon as I get in. They have put the prices up and have a cleaning charge but that's fine, I'm happy to support a small business 🙂
Not much going on on the work front, it seems to have gone quiet for the moment, will just have to wait and see. BF had an interview for a supervisory role in the factory, we're crossing our fingers because it would come with a nice pay rise. The only thing that really goes against him is that he hasn't been there that long and doesn't work in that particular area but neither did the current supervisor, so another waiting game there!
Have a lovely weekend! XMortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.

I have a new boiler!!! 😀
It's very posh, digital and is in a fancy cupboard with soft closing doors. I can activate the heating on my phone when it comes to winter and it's a huge weight lifted! The old horrid electric one is gone. It left a lot of water behind which we've mopped up and the dehumidifier is in the cupboard where it was, drying it out. Once it's dry, we'll put a bit of lino down in there, paint it and it will then be used as storage for the hoover, mop, dog food etc.
There's still some work to be done, there's some pipes that need boxing in and a bit of skirting board that needs replacing. The plumber also found that the previous owners had put the pipes for the old boiler in the roof and then put a ceiling up! We have no loft hatch into the roof space so if we had of had a leak, we would have had to rip the ceiling down! As there was no way of getting to them, these pipes are still live, so that could still happen. The plan now is to ask my brother, who is a joiner really nicely if he will put us a loft hatch in the ceiling of the living room. This way we would have access to the pipes and a lot of storage space! I just cannot fathom the previous owners thinking over this place, they've made such stupid choices that I wish I could demand some of my money back but I guess that's the way the housing market works!!
I have £2500 left in my savings account, some of this was for an overpayment on the mortgage but I think the sensible option would be to keep it for the EF and get that up to £3k (3 months worth of bills) before making overpayments again.
Dog 1 is back at the vets today after finishing his 6 week intense course of antibiotics, so fingers crossed he's all sorted now! I have the dentist next week as well so I won't have as much left in my current account as I would have liked but hey ho, that's life. Boyo is still here eating all the food, but I did ask him to wash up our lunch stuff yesterday when we went back to work and he did, so that's progress! 😂
I paid off my phone handset this month, so I am free to look for a cheaper price plan this weekend. BF has a meeting next week about the promotion, he's worried sick, bless him 😔 will feed him chocolate to cheer him up!
Well, best get my butt out of bed and get going! My farmer mate gave me some red beet so I need to get that cooked!
