I think you mean 2015.........Good point especially since May has been trying to implement most of his policies anyway.

Yes. Sorry I meant 2015. If ONLY people had voted for Ed. None of this mess would have happened.

Do you not think the windrush episode can be explained by carelessness and laziness rather than malice?

I would, had it not been for Mays "Hostile environment" policy towards immigrants.

True but I'm not convinced that policy was aimed at the Windrush generation people. However it obviously became an issue once the difficulties these people faced surfaced.

Do you think the intent/cause really matters that much to those affected?
    I don’t.

Well it almost certainly wasn't... but if you toss a big fishing net into the sea wanting to catch fish don't be surprised if you haul in a lot of other dying things too.

There are many grave injustices as a result of the 'hostile environment'... only some ever reach public consciousness and concern. The final episode of the series on BBC2 about non EU immigrants was again like the others good in giving people a run through of the various routes in and the sorts of real issues people have to engage.

In the last episode a family torn apart because it seems they made the wrong visa application... and having been in the system (or in effect in it due to partner) I know how easy that is to do... and they keep changing forms, rules and systems... often with errors or false information included regarding. In the end things work out... but it's not like with your usual administrative error you apologise and correct it... you get told to get out of the country. What I can gather is that with cuts staff are under increasing pressure and the more experienced staff are being lost... so sense and flexibility are being replaced by more clinical processing and often with incorrect application of law. Windrush was a result of the latter. Telling EU nationals to leave the country after a failed Visa application is another example of the latter.

As it happens the documentary show in question features the immigration lawyers themselves.. nice if you can afford one. But the advice of one seemed to me to have been very poor... he's the expert I'm not... but it led to crisis and failed application along with demands for money from the Home Office... all of which could have been avoided. So even with support these things can be difficult... the system complex... rules applied with often lacking clarity. And indeed the show suggests the Home Office is creating falsified documents.. something many have suspected... in order to manipulate their apparent processing times. Shoe on other foot... a migrant falsifying documents and they may never see the UK again. As suggested by show... being a migrant makes you a suspect... and a guilty one until shown otherwise... this is in complete contrast with other people here.

The sad truth is that his inability to eat a bacon sandwich in a competent and dignified way has ruined this country forever.

The rules were set to explicitly rule out using evidence that the government already had, while requiring an unreasonable level of evidence from the individuals.

I can't see how someone could have written the rules without some form of malice, although there were probably lazy and apathetic people who didn't stop it.

The delay where you don't get any money when transitioning to universal credit is also one of malice, it's assuming that all claimants are workshy and just by stopping their money for a month then they'll be shocked into work. Using 0800 numbers for initial benefits claims and 0845 numbers to talk about an existing claim was also malice.

I don't think anyone is suggesting they are singling out those who came on a specific boat, anyone who wasn't born here is fair game to them. They then tried unsuccessfully to cover it all up when the news hit and had to finally admit that they had deported people who qualified for british citizenship, because they couldn't stop people leaking the truth.

The tories are unfit to lead.

And they have an unfit leader with a history of callous class based superiority, lying, racism, misogyny, and homophobia; who therefore represents them perfectly. The worrying thing is that won't deter a lot of British voters.

When Trump told the four Congress women to go home to their dreadful countries his approval ratings went up 5 points.

It seems the only thing right wing politicians can do to upset their base is fail to be sufficiently execrable.

Exclusive: Deutsche Bank sets aside $1.1 billion to exit derivatives.

    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/exclusive-deutsche-bank-faces-1-151608050.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAANV3LZRx9n5Zdo4LiSfvig4V0wBrPmIiQu4YsA7sOB-aroYGa6tMXdVFkEsCtU7s94TNrlSbHfNlH-HY1K5BA0jV3NTY99e9UlPvv_0y0NPhkCJS-ihQjiBbm0g09dRxVAvs24ZudlXRSFb2dXLPoSU97hOLL2ONGjTkuPDAIyah

1.1 billion is a drop in the bucket of fifty trillion derivatives problem.

Question, once they go into the bad bank who takes on the losses? The German government or the EU? Somebody has to take on the liabilities who takes the losses?

If it is the EU then brexit a good thing.
