Well you really should have done a bit of basic research into the rules around parliamentary terms and the requirements for holding elections.

Surely you should have twigged that something in your knowledge was lacking when we had an election in 2017, just two years after the previous one?

Parliamentary sovereignty means that MPs can ignore the result of a GE or referendum.

    Who hasn't done their research?

Parliamentary sovereignty means that MPs can override any vote that I make. Whether it's a GE or referendum.

I did my research, did you do yours?

Are you trying to make some convoluted point that parliament can decide if there should be a second referendum because it can decide to hold early elections?

Sorry to disappoint you old chap but that isn’t exactly rocket science. What other nuggets of genius have you got for us? Not too quick though I doubt the rest of our brains can cope with this level of fact overload.

It's not convoluted. They could hold a second referendum if they wanted, they can even ignore the 2016 referendum result completely.

I just find it interesting the hypocrisy from the leavers that ignore parliamentary sovereignty when it suits them. If you are protesting that MPs have to follow out of date referendum results, then you should protest that they have to follow out of date GE results as well.

I'll take your lack of an argument as conceding that I was right. Thanks. I agree with you too.

    Yes we all know that

I find it interesting that you are making up arguments to have with yourself.

I think you misunderstood how I used irony to lure you into a trap to make the argument I wanted to make.

The insults help, because you are more focused on them than where you are going with the facts.

In which case you have failed. Miserably.

No, your insults only further highlight the evidence of a lack of understanding on your part.

Example: you mention the supposed hypocrisy from leavers whilst yourself saying that there could be another referendum but not another GE, this despite MP's not honouring the referendum result. :naughty: You've done nothing but talk yourself into a corner there, no wonder you're squirming to get out of it.

That isn't hypocrisy, that was the irony. Of course there can be another GE because of parliamentary sovereignty, but only if they vote for it & not something the government can force. Parliament could vote to ignore the referendum result, I guess this is why Boris wants to load the house with his far right friends.

I'm not squirming, that is wishful thinking on your part.

It was a resounding success. I can't help it if you don't understand the irony.

I predict a GE on December 5th or a week later. People have had enough of the parliament games. Boris has a deal, he won approval last night, so why on earth did they vote against the timetable? More delaying tactics from remainer mps.

    Time for a clear out.
The deal is a rotten one not good enough for the future and it's flaws need exposing:-

When I voted in 2017 I expected that vote to last until 2022
When I voted in 2016, I expected that vote to last until around 2050, based on the last referendum confirming membership of the EEC.
People's minds were beginning to change by the early 1990's as the EEC morphed into the EU - but we didn't get another refeerendum then - which remain may well have won. It was put off and put off until the pressure couldn't be ignored.

It was "put-off" until the EU announced their laws around tax-avoidance, suddenly EU membership became an issue.

Which is why Boris is hell-bent on his October 31st deadline, the laws are due to come into force in 2020.

Brexit has always been about the rich dodging taxes, they've managed to fool large numbers of people into thinking it will be beneficial to the country as a whole. Austerity is to blame for most of our current problems, not immigrants.

Another GE will likely result in another hung parliament, it may well change nothing.
