I wonder if a GE would get blocked again, or if Corbyn is happy he can extend the deadline again when it runs out, so he's not walking into a no-deal trap.
He’s going to look like an even bigger bell-end if that’s the idea.
So yes, he’ll probably do that.
How dare MP's want to take time to read the bill properly before voting on it. That Johnson would rather abandon it and call a GE is pretty telling that either (a) the deal is awful and he doesn't want any scrutiny or (b) he had no intention of taking that deal and is still trying to work a no-deal (to quickly turn into a no-brexit) in order to keep his sponsors happy.

What's your objection to taking a few weeks longer to make sure we do it properly?

Not that I think 3 days is a reasonable timescale, but I think we all know that at least 95% of MPs have already decided (or had it decided for them) how they will vote. Trying to pretend otherwise isn’t fooling anyone.

No. If even the Brexit Secretary doesn't fully understand it, how can MPs be expected to vote for it without scrutiny?

It's just Boris trying to achieve his self-inflicted deadline.

Brexit is a waste of time and energy and is a completely pointless self inflicted wound. It's caused so much bitterness, division and hate in this country which will continue for years. People still insist on it out of simple bloody mindedness. It's now like having to take a dose of medicine for an illness that you don't have. Nothing positive will come of it.

If Johnson now pushes for a GE I don't think Corbyn can realistically avoid it. Seems like an uphill battle to force the brexit bill out of limbo and that would imply he'd eventually support the deal which seems unlikely so there's an element of bad faith on his part too.

Even with a decent Tory majority Johnson would be facing a large rebellion if he tried to push through no-deal when he's already got a deal and wasn't far off having the numbers to get it through parliament.

There's no point 'seeking assurances' from Johnson because he's a serial liar so there would still be a risk of no-deal with or without a GE.

So you're at last accepting that the likelihood is that Boris will - one way or another - be able to get his deal approved by parliament even though this deal is going to lead to a "harder" Brexit than TM's proposed deal. :T

I predict a GE on December 5th or a week later. People have had enough of the parliament games. Boris has a deal, he won approval last night, so why on earth did they vote against the timetable? More delaying tactics from remainer mps.

    Time for a clear out.

When I voted in 2017 I expected that vote to last until 2022.

Why do we have to have another GE? Is Boris saying we got it wrong last time?

What if the GE doesn't solve it? Are we going to keep having GE until we get the right answer?

Maybe we should have a GE to find out if we should have a GE!

What do you mean "at last"? The whole point of this is to make sure it is harder, because the harder the brexit the more likely it is we'll rejoin the EU. You can keep on with project fear all you want, we can all see through it.

When I voted "leave" in the 2016 referendum and was told it would take two years I didn't expect to see my vote ignored for so long by those refusing to accept my decision.

When I voted in 2017 I expected my MP to do the bidding of the electorate but far too many have not, hence we are currently still EU members when by now we should have left the EU.

So provided at least one party commits to leaving the EU in a General Election it is only right that the electorate be given the opportunity to select an MP that will agree to their wishes.

You're having funny dreams if you think the UK would ever want to rejoin the EU so instead it's just that remainers are frightened now that they see Brexit is inevitable after BoJo got the deal they said he never would and then got parliamentary approval for the deal that they said he'd never get. Well, it serves remainers right for refusing to accept the result of the referendum.

Democracy didn't end in 2016. Enough people have changed their mind since the referendum that the result is no longer safe.

If you don't believe me then I suggest you ask for a second referendum to prove that the country still wants to leave at any cost.

Boris is a serial liar, so it's normally safe to assume if he says something then it's not true. This transition deal is a misdirection, we stay in the EU until December 2020 and we don't actually have time to negotiate a new trade deal. The EU reckon we'll need at least three year extension, Boris has said we won't extend at all.

The minority leavers want to take control and give it to someone reckless, who will no doubt betray the minority leavers. Thanks for ruining the country.

People keep going on about a peoples vote. What happens when leave wins again? The remain Mps will continue to ignore the people. They have an agenda.

A General election kills two birds with one stone. Vote for the party who's brexit polices you agree with and also vote for the party polices who you want for the next 5 years.

It's not that hard to understand, is it?

My area and surrounding areas was labour, but over the past few elections it has been slowly changing to tory. I think if there is an election in December, that'll just turn the lot completely blue tbh.

Well you really should have done a bit of basic research into the rules around parliamentary terms and the requirements for holding elections.

Surely you should have twigged that something in your knowledge was lacking when we had an election in 2017, just two years after the previous one?
