Got a sore throat, I always do when I’m stressed. Son been horrible, won’t go to bed and has been like this for two weeks now. I know it will pass but I’m getting fed up with him screaming and shouting at me, apparently I’m a rubbish Mum, and now he’s start throwing his soft toys at me. I should be grateful it’s just his soft toys! Santa has been rung already and there’s a party invitation that I haven’t replied to yet and I’m strongly considering declining it.

Made an overpayment on the mortgage today of £40 so my May total is £300. Mortgage will go below £62K next month so should be out of the 60s by the end of the year. My EF now stands at £750 but probably won’t get a top up next month as the EF money will go towards the credit card bill but I will be able to pay that off in full. I’m still allocating a portion of money to the mortgage but at the moment the spare funds are split between overpayment and savings. Once EF is at £1,000 I’ll top up PB to £5K and then divert everything into mortgage. Will have to keep an eye on overpayment total next year as I could get close to the 10% I’m allowed. Fixed term ends November 2020 and that will take me off the overpayment limit. Had a quick look with my current lender at options and they all have arrangement fees and limited overpayments so they won’t be worth taking out. Mmmmmmm plenty to think about then but for now it’s a long weekend and the boy has finally gone to sleep :T

Sorry to hear you have a sore throat and that your son isn't cooperating at bedtime. Parenting can be so hard at times. DD2 has been a screamer and a shouter but she finally seems to have grown out of it. You have my sympathies.

Well done for making overpayments and building your EF.

Hope you get some more sleep over the long weekend and that you shake off the sore throat.

  • Sorry to hear about your son. It can be draining and exhausting being a parent and although you know it's a phase, it doesn't make it any easier while you are in the thick of it. You don't sound like a rubbish mum to me. Responsible, dedicated and wanting the best for your family sounds more like the mum I've been reading about. Well done on the overpayments. You are getting closer all the time.:)

Hello! Well done on tackling your mortgage. I'm hoping for 2023 for clearing ours!

Good luck on the applications / interview - I'm too just starting to look for work again.

Will subscribe to follow your journey!

Ips0s / isay and 0nepoll are other good quick easy to do survey options if you haven't looked at those!

Thank you everyone for your kind words and support :blushing:. I’ve just shed a little tear (I am a bit emotional at the moment!). I know I will get through this and it’s only a phase but try telling me that at 10pm when I’m shattered :o

Morning, sore throat not as bad, I think it peaked yesterday. I ended up doing the one thing I promised never to do, I sent my son to bed with the iPad. I was so tired and could hardly speak so we both went to bed about 8pm and I woke up at 6am as I could hear the rain. Not ideal but at least I feel a bit better. Spent a lot of time in the garden yesterday despite the lurgy. Planted the last of the gladioli bulbs, potted on the tomatoes, pumpkin and butternut squash with some to gift to my niece. I did move the geum plant as it looked very poorly indeed so it wasn’t going to survive. I’ve moved it to the opposite side of the garden where my other geums are and are looking lovely. A neighbour gave us a compost bin so we collected that and have set it up in the corner of the veg patch. There is progress with the fruit and veg but whether we will get any final produce before the birds and slugs waits to be seen. This mornings rain has benefitted them and refilled the pond. I don’t think my veg growing efforts will save us any money but they give me pleasure and make me more determined to become MF is I can spend more time in the garden. On that point another job application to start today!

Don't be too hard on yourself, there are times where Cbbeebies have parented mine if I'm poorly. It's not every day and needs must!

Great going on the gardening! I keep saying I will have veg growing one day, so far this year - we have one green bean plant!

Now into full blown cold mode. Managed all winter without one and now just as summer is approaching I’ve succumbed. Been out for the day to a local wildlife park we have season tickets for. Took a picnic and my boy was very good about not asking for anything from the gift shop so I bought him an ice lolly that he had been nagging about all day (£1.50). Less than 36 hours until my salary goes in. I have some funds in my bank account but they are all “allocated” to other accounts. £50 to savings and then the remaining £8.19 towards the mortgage. I have a feeling my petrol light might start going tomorrow though but I can get to work and back with it flashing, as I often do :D

I have decided to cancel the interview I’ve got next Tuesday. A couple of reasons; I can earn more at other places now I’ve decided to go back full time and also I think I would really struggle getting out of the city on public transport in time to get my son. It’s only 4.5 miles but I live in a particularly congested city, think narrow medieval streets and tourists. There is the one I’m currently working on and another one has come up where I work at the moment. It’s in central services and is more or less what I did before I relocated and therefore had to leave the job I really liked. I’ve also thought, I’ve just started looking again and there are several I’ve been able to consider so instead of jumping at the first thing that comes up I need to be considered in my choice, otherwise I might just end up in a similar situation that I’m in now. I am still going to take the day off work though and spend some quality time with me! A friend is picking my son up tomorrow from holiday club and having him round for tea and then my best friend is looking after him on Friday and having him overnight. It will only be the fourth time we have spent the night apart and he’s six now so you can see how little support I have. One of those times was because I was going into hospital and each of the overnighters has been because the same friend has offered to take him. I’m soooooooo looking forward to a Saturday lie in which probably means I’ll be awake at 5 :rotfl:

Thanks Jess, just hoping it doesn’t turn into sinusitis as I’m rather prone to that affliction. Well I made it to work and back with no petrol light coming on and I can see my salary sitting there as a pending transaction. I did an account tidy and have topped up the emergency fund to £800. I was hoping to get it to £1000 in June but the £200 allocated to savings will now go towards the credit card bill. I had £300 in the bills account for car repairs so I’m £192.60 short which will come out of the emergency fund before it even goes in! I had £9.17 left in the bank so £9 has gone to the mortgage with 17p in the bank until midnight. Shopping day tomorrow as boy is away overnight I can go straight from work. Tempted to get a bottle of wine but that is a sure fire way of missing Gardeners World! I normally doze off in the chair during it anyway so factor in alcohol and I’m a gonner.

About to finish another job application as closing date is tomorrow. I’ve done the personal statement but need to check it and fill in all the other bits, don’t really want to leave it any later so off downstairs for a cuppa and toasted teacake and set to it. Probably another long evening ahead of me :(
