You may have started this thread but it's not your thread, it's for anyone reading it.

You were asked on the first page of this thread how much RAM you have, so don't get your knickers in a twist!

I started this thread for helpful information, not someone aiming laughable icons towards me. Quite immature and childish don't you think, i'm 22, how old are you????

A newbie came along offering me the correct advice, also thanks to the others who have gave me their valued advice, thank you techs :D.

Getting rid of Norton will help keep you going, but RAM for XP2 is normally 256 or 512 minimum although more is recommended. I now have 1024 and can use Norton ok ( until the freebie subscription runs out ) and then I will revert back to AVG anti virus.

Thanks Rog, my uncle works in IT and knows a lot more than i do :p, so shall ask him to take a look for me and update my pc.

    Thanks.

Don't take it so seriously babes21.

You did take an extraordinarily long time to reply to the RAM question.

Since you have made many replies since you were asked(and shown where to find the information), frustration can set in for those who are trying to help you.

Though you may think that espresso was laughing at you, his link may prove useful to you.

If you uncle was so good at IT, he would have certainly highlighted the problem a lot earlier.

As for the newbie's advice, I will add that if you intend to use AVG, you will certainly need an Anti Trojan program too.

When helping my neighbour who had a trojan problem we put on AVG and it found both instances no problem and fixed them easily, which compared very favourably with another freebie antivirus program she had installed which showed a clean scan.

    Fair enough.

Although i haven't asked for my uncles help as yet, he isn't aware i have a problem as i haven't told him about it, he's a professional :) so does know what he's doing.

Thanks anyway, shall leave this thread now, so thanks to all those who offered there advice, it was appreciated.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Fortunately the price of RAM has fallen considerably, if you can add at least 512Mb and you will find your machine is transformed.
Tricky bit is to find out what RAM you need, if you go to Crucial,

try the system checker tool and it will tell you what you need.
    Hope this helps.

clearing something up when someone else was wrong

    That would be me then..

Having defragged nearly as many disks as I have had hot dinners, using numerous different defraggers, over a long period of time, I can say that on a modern disk 50% full, (and I include a 40GB in that definition), you or anyone would be hard pushed to notice any difference between a pre-defragged and a post-defragged disk. Lack of ram for cacheing, and causing swapping is far far more important, as is choice of virus scanner, malware, and crap loading at startup.

    Others may disagree..

I still defrag btw, but it's more for old time sake and a pretty screen moving dots about, than an expectation that my PC is suddenly going to get a turbo boost.
