Talldave said:Not sure why the other thread was closed, but the two readings a month seems like a good idea.Yes, I wondered what despicable crime I'd committed !I flagged it up as a new thread because it's not specifically about Gulf, more about fortnightly readings being a good idea with so many office people now working at home who might otherwise get bill shock. Many people still think that Fixed Direct Debit means All You Can Eat.

Good tariff but Gulf don't seem interested in Smart meters! Surprised this is allowed nowadays.
Thread:Hi, thanks for contacting Gulf Gas & Power UK, how can I support you today?Good Morning you're speaking with Amy, how can I support you today?I have a SMETS2 smart meter. It is not displaying the correct tariff and now you are asking me for manual readings. Can you sort this please? With regards to the smart meter, if your previous supplier provided you with the smart meter it would only hold their tariff information. We also do require our customers to provide us with a meter read as the smart meter doesn't always provide us with monthly readings. So Gulf Gas and Power does not recognise smart meters. We don't but we are working on providing our customer with smart meters in the future. This should have been explained when I signed up.We have got information regarding smart meters on our website. We do take on smart meters but require our customers to provide us with monthly meter reads.Well thanks. Posting this thread on MoneySavingExpert.

They are being forced to sign-up with the DCC but sadly that doesn't translate into a requirement to actually support smart meters yet...

I switched to their gas only tariff in March 2020. The switch went very well with no problems. Their web site automation and processes are great and easy to use. They are pro-active with their communication and easy to deal with.
I'm on the cheapest gas tariff by a long way. My electricity is with another company.
Ongoing, their systems, service and communication is faultless.
I would recommend.0 -
I switched to them in March. No issues with the switch, site is easy to use, first bill suggested a slight increase of direct debit but no pressure to increase, it looks like a prompt to stop you building debt.
Highly recommended, cheapest tariff by far for our household!0 -
Just contacted Gulf re a new tariff they are offering. HOWEVER, they have confirmed that I would be charged the exit fee (£30), to change to the July tariff. Saving isn't worth it.
Seems a bit short sighted to me as I may now switch to So or Zog as the potential savings are greater than the exit fee from Gulf0 -
Unfortunately my opinion of Gulf has taken a nosedive. I had rated them as very good, but I switched when the mega-cheap Robin Hood fix for gas was launched. Price was the only reason for leaving. However, Gulf deleted my account the moment Robin Hood became my supplier. This was premature because I haven't received my final bill and was in credit by over £80; I wanted to log in to confirm that there would be enough credit to settle the final bill and the exit fee. There was no explanation or apology, the login screen just refreshed and cleared my email address and password. To add insult to injury, Gulf then took a completely unnecessary DD payment after the switch had taken place.I complained using Live Chat. Despite having excellent eyesight and a laptop with a 17" screen, the Live Chat is almost unreadable because of the use of a stupidly small font in very pale grey. It's as if they don't want to be contacted !Gulf refused to reinstate access to my account, stating that I'm not supplied by them. They did agree to refund the DD but said this would take up to two weeks.Shame, because it was all going so well, but sadly I can no longer recommend them. Perhaps I should have taken more heed that they seem to have nothing to do with the American company that once used the Gulf name and logo, and this should have served as a warning !1
