Not exactly the busiest board !

Anyway. I'm sick and tired of energy companies going bust on me and all the resultant hassle of trying to get final readings and credit amounts sorted. It's just exhausting !

Currently with Avro who I've had no problems with (and I'm not saying they're going bust, but with my luck, who knows). Their renewal quote was OK but Gulf's was better and they are a HUGE American company so the likelyhood of impending receivership is unlikely.

    Started the switch today.
  • Their website names them as just "Gas and Power" trading as "Gulf Gas and Power". Are they part of the US giant?

  • They're business focused rather than domestic, which probably explains why there's nothing in this thread.

Currently 4.7/5 on Trustpilot based on 770 reviews.

Being owned by a foreign giant, worst case scenario is that you'll be sold off to someone else in winter 2020

    Yep. That was dead easy.

Very simple website with no need to contact anyone at Gulf . Just get a quote and sign up.

    4.5/5 on Trustpilot.

Their latest gas tariff (Gulf Home Renewable February 21 v2) is attractive (2.370p per kWh, 17.29p per day) in my area. It was introduced during my cooling off period so I asked them online to switch from v1 to v2.

They agreed but said it would trigger a new 14 day cooling off period. This seemed unnecessary (I'd swapped immediately several times to new Avro tariffs with no problem), so I called them. They agreed with no hassle, so it seems good so far although it hasn't yet gone live.

I'm having a similar positive experience to Gerry1. I had a problem with their website when first signing up (bank account validation not working) but they signed me up over the phone.

When I called to ask about changing to the new V2 tariff during the cooling off period, they changed it immediately - no emails, nothing else to acknowledge, just updated in my online account.

Very impressed so far and a £300 saving!

This Gulf is nothing to do with the US company, they went bust in 1985. The name was owned by Mumbai based Indian major corporation Hinduja with HQ in London and owned by the richest non royal family in the UK. No doubt this defunct trade name and logo has been bought by the current user whose directors have fingers in many pies including fuel oil distribution. So not a giant, just another minnow.

Maybe not a giant, but not defunct.

Looks like Hinduja still operate the brand in UK then, still nothing to do with the Americans, just a licenced use of the brand.
