One debt remaining. Home improvement loan.
  • I was going to write a big long post about the cost of moving, but will just condense.

My debt figure has risen back to £5800 , this had come from the £3200 I originally started with before I moved the rest has been the cost of moving , paying 2 lots of rents and utilities . New carpet, blinds, decorating, cooker, moving costs .

£800 is on a credit card 0% until May 2021 . The £5000 is a loan that I got at 2.9 % for 24 months , I know people aren't happy with consolidating but it's best for me . I have already made 2 payments to the loan so 22 to go.

My salary has increased by £2300 per year in the last month , so I will get this salary in October. I still haven't got a true SOA owing to paying utilities with old companies. The council tax is £110 a month until April it will then fall to around £80. I am cancelling my gym membership as soon as possible.

I have all my Xmas money still intact, all insurances paid in full until next year . I have bought my premium bonds every month and have around £200 now. My emergency fund is £700 that is due to paying the squirrel man. Car is all sorted apart from any repairs that pop up.

The bad thing is I have booked a holiday for December in Spain 4 nights . I am thinking maybe it wasn't the best idea , but so need a break later in the year.

My debt free date is 22 months away or maybe sooner. I need to get back into eBay and surveys again . I have been using the Shoppix app and am due to get a payout this week.

    Think that's it .

  • What a relief about the squirrels Sunshine :T.

Your loan is a low interest rate and has a set end date when you will be debt free, so it sems like a sensible move to me. Unlike credit cards where you can make you monthly payment and then just spend on them again (that's what I used to do because I was too poor not to by then :().

It sounds like you've made your new flat into a home where you can be happy :) and great news about the salary increase which will make the loan more affordable :T.

    CHRISTMAS SAVINGS = £0/£500. SEF = £1,400/£12,000 PREMIUM BONDS ME = £350. PREMIUM BONDS DH = £300.
HOLIDAY MONEY = £0 TIME LEFT TO PAY OFF MORTGAGE = 5 YEARS 1 MONTHS
  • For me , I have learnt so much being on this site, I don't like credit cards anymore they worry me. I only have one now which i use, the one with the balance on has a direct debit on it to clear within the 0% period. The other gets cleared in full if I use it. Taking loans out is frowned upon but it works best for me .

Budgeting is the best thing I have learnt and paying upfront for things like the insurance etc. Of course I am hoping after Christmas to be able to start a pot for overpaying the loan and credit card. First though I need to get a hang on the bills in this flat , plus my petrol usage and readjust as necessary.

This I would imagine is going to take a good few months. I have a couple of outings to look forward to in October a trip to the north east to visit friends , a trip to London for the day. Not committing to much more other than local stuff.
We had a scarecrow festival where I live now yesterday , I had a walk round it last night, there were some great ones.
Today it looks like rain is set in for the day, so shopping to be done and then a flat to clean plus the ironing . Best get a move on.

  • Shopping done, rain has stopped for the moment , off to walk the scarecrows.

  • Just popping in to say glad the squirrels are gone and that you are settling in to your new home. My daughter used to live in a village where they had a scarecrow festival each year, I loved it. It's amazing how creative people can be. Enjoy your walk x

Sounds like you’re planning ahead and if a loan is best for you that all that matters. Do what works for you. You need a holiday and it that’s what it takes to keep you on track it’s worth the money.
Pleased you’ve scared the squirrels off :D

Glad the squirrel problem seems to have resolved itself. Presumably you'll get the hole sealed up where they got in?

You've done what you need to do in the best way for you to tackle finances.

Glad you've booked a break away, it will do you good :)
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • :j to the decamped squirrels! Hopefully they've gone back to Squirreltowm!

Moving home is always expensive - always extra expense with things that crop up unexpectedly, plus you were running two homes for a while. Your budget plans seem well thought out going forward.

Re the holiday - you've had some ups and downs this year so I think a break is in order. You deserve it. :)

Scarecrow festival sounded great fun. Never seen anything like that in my neck of the woods!:)
