  • Wow! With all of these frogs, no wonder you have a spring in your step . Yes, loan is the way to go. You have a good plumber by the sounds of it . Best to keep him and get the job done ASAP imho. .
Good luck with it all :)...

I’d say take the loan. You have a clear plan to repay and you will have the work done. Also means that if you see a bargain, you can take advantage

    Another vote for the loan.

You are all right. Thank you ;) I will get the work done. Use a loan (if they give me one) and repay when I get paid in July. A few tight months are coming up! But if I finally have a bathroom I can use I will be happy :)

I think that although it's a scary thought taking out a loan, committing to all these house repairs and going on holiday, these are all massive steps forward that you wouldn't have been able to do if you weren't mortgage and debt free.

As everyone else pointed out, you have a clear path to repay the loan so in the essence of securing the plumber and getting the work done sooner rather than later, i think you should do it. Just make sure you take a look at any 'early repayment charges' and watch that they don't hit you with a massive interest because it's for a 'small' amount (I don't know the amount, just guessing it's not massive because you're intending to pay it off in July)

    I'm really excited for you!

You are right these are all massive steps (especially for a scaredy-cat like me) Your post was really helpful as it started me thinking about charges and I realised I can use my new CC as it is such a short term loan. I then get protection on the items purchased too. Thank you :A

The rain is non stop today. It would have been easy to stay in but I felt a bit stir crazy and edgy so I braved the weather. Now I am back the heating on because it feels damp and gloomy…Lights on and lemon oil burning.

The house is a mess. I will attempt to restore order by the end of the day.

    FROG EATEN
I spent the morning sorting insurance. I only used one comparison website and made one call but I felt so anxious I got an upset tummy. In the end I bought insurance that was more than £200 less than my renewal. Maybe I could have got more off if I kept haggling and searching but I found it too stressful. It has now been sorted in full for another year. I am happy with that.

    HOUSE PROGRESS
I went to look at bathrooms. I have a much clearer idea. I have lots of brochures. I have a contact at the showroom. The rain acted in my favour as it is usually busy but it wasn’t so I got lots of individual attention. I can see I can do this within budget. ;)

I have been trying to get through to the CU all day without success. But then it occurred to me I now have my new credit card. I can use this to get up to 56 days interest free credit, so I can use this instead of a loan. I can repay in full with my July pay. :T

I am pleased with the progress I have made today so now I will clean up, tidy up and potter for the rest of the day.

    Welcome to the new week.

  • The rain has been patchy here in Dorset. I managed to get in by lunchtime before it started to come down. Apparently the south east is gonna bear the brunt of it . We'll see..

Insurance is an essential pita and so annoying as we all know .
I really can't understand why people who are loyal get massive increases to their policy and have to keep changing more or less annually. My building insurance with endsleigh would have went up over 3 times more than the previous year . I decided to compare the meerkat once again , and a better deal was imminent . Something told me to be confused once more , so I used them to get my new policy with admiral . I'm not so money supermarket as I hate their ads . Glad you got sorted DIA .

Great news about the credit card :) It's all going really well ..

Thanks AC. Glad I am not alone in dreading the crazy search for reasonable insurance. I hate the way they penalise loyalty

I just called my bathroom contact back. There was a lovely bath in the store reduced from £660 extra deep and really lovely. Discounted to £360. Cheeky but I phoned and said I will take it for £300 and he agreed! Big company so I don't feel guilty. I will need other things too but really pleased with the bath. Appointment to buy next week :money::money:

WOW, nice one :T . I love the way you not only found a great bargain but haggled them down still further. Good for you, I think that deserves the MSE medal this week!

  • Well done on haggling for the bath DIA and for working out how to pay for the bathroom. Also well done for finding cheaper insurance, it's definitely a stressful process but very MSE :).
