£30 is crazy! I agree with HHD, I don't spend that on relatives!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0

Just catching up (again) and £30 for a leaving present without consulting you is absolutely dire!
When my eldest was leaving nursery, I bought a little minding for his key worker but I didn't realise i'd also be roped into a joint gift. I wasn't too bothered but they started buying gifts for all the nursery teachers and I think i was £30/40 down by the time i paid my share... It's all done with lovely intentions but I just don't see the value in things like that. A small thank you/ goodbye is enough.Sealed Pot Challenge 075

Thanks SSG. I envy your little army of trusted trades people. How did you acquire them in the first place?
I know I don't sound like it but I want to try to do things sometimes as I think if I can get over the stress I will feel empowered in the end if that makes sense?
I was introduced to them via my sister - one is the father of one of her good friends and the other two have carried out work for the company she works for. Mind you, the decorator and plumber are semi-retired now so I'm not sure how long they will continue taking on work.:(
I would have been annoyed too about the leaving gift. What one would spend on an gift individually is up to that person - people have different budgets and priorities. But if a gift is to be bought on a group basis then the budget should be discussed by everyone beforehand. It's rude to assume that someone will just go-ahead and cough up without being consulted first.
I hope all is well with you DIA and you're feeling better.
