Giving up/ Cutting Down Alcohol Thread Part 16

Another one who finds it easier after dinner. When I decided that I was serious about reducing my drinking I identified that wine with dinner was a big trigger for me. I would often start drinking while preparing dinner, drink with my meal and then just carry on the whole evening
. I agreed with my husband that, unless we had guests, we would drink water with our meal; it works well for me and I bypass the Ping it's Wine O'Clock feeling (usually).
Unfortunately it has had an unwelcome unintended consequence. My husband is a smoker as well as a drinker and has his 'man cave' where he goes to smoke. It used to be that we had quite leisurely meals chatting about our days then he would go for his after dinner smoke and after that we would usually watch something that we could both agree on (with him popping in and out) accompanied by lots of wine or sometimes watch different things in different rooms. These days we zip through dinner and he then decamps to man cave for the evening with his wine, baccy and new (large) tv. I have said that I don't mind if he drinks wine when I am not but actually I think he prefers the new routine.
That's interesting marahouti. My DH drinks about the same as me but he prefers to have a couple of (ridiculously tiny:eek:) glasses every evening whereas I'd rather save up mine for weekends and have what I want. He loves to sit after dinner and enjoy his wine at the dining table whereas I'm keen to get up, make my cuppa and slouch on the sofa. He rarely watches TV so it's not often I see much of him after dinner. Maybe that's why we get on so well.:D0 -
Yes Maman I have to admit that when you are in a long marriage, I don't know how long you have been wed but it's 38yrs for me and DH , time spent apart can be very beneficial. It's just one of the changes that my reduced alcohol intake has caused. Most are welcome some less so. I suppose this one is on my mind because I suspect, actually I know, that DH is drinking more.0

Hello
I've been super busy so haven't been on here much... Aldo been drinking far too much, I'm only up to 10/20 so far. I'm out tomorrow night so will be drinking but then will do my best to stay off it until the end of the month. I lost quite a lot of weight that I really don't want to put on again.
Hope everyone's well.Say what you mean.. mean what you say... without being mean.0 -
