Books are flying out for me at the moment, i am having my best few weeks ever. I expected to sell text books what with students going back to uni, but I am also selling novels and paperbacks, so maybe people are not going out and are instead staying home and reading to save money.

    Good for you Soolin :T

I had an excellent September but October is rather quiet at the moment , despite listing more books  - ah well I'm sure the selling fairy will reappear in due course. Off to list some more

I do wonder if people understand how to list on Amazon. I am still sitting here listing the last lot of books and came across one where the lowest seller with 83% feedback has stated the following:

    condition : very good
comments Comments: very good apart from a very limited number of highlighted sections

I wonder then if my rather tatty copy could be listed as 'like new' with the comments, ' like new but been read quite a few times by someone with sticky fingers who has also scribbled on the pages'.

I had a hugely successful month, could barely post the stuff out quick enough. It has died again for me so I have obviously had my turn at the helm and have been put on the back burner.

Stilllisting my last batch of books, I've only got the 'difficult' ones left now. I always make the mistake of putting the 'difficult' ones aside, the pre 1930s, the ones with no ISBNs and the ones where I need to add a catalogue entry. Then I get disheartened looking at them all.

Yes i've noticed this, if I list ex library I only ever put acceptable or if exceptional possibly good, people just seem to put very good for everything. Also for the older books where people have created the listing there seems to be multiple created listings for the same book and thats always slightly irritating ;)

Sorry if this has been posted before. I noticed today that Amazon is cutting its free delivery to purchases over £5 from the usual £15. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/3201107/Amazon-slashes-delivery-charges-in-run-up-to-Christmas.html

This must have an effect on marketplace sales. What do you think?

    As for my sales... sparodic!

I agree that it might well hit marketplace selelrs. Why pay us £5 including post and packing of £2.75 for a second hand book when you can get a brand new one on ebay post free.

Still, I am doing well today, so hopefuily I can get a fair few sales in before people notice the cheaper Amazon postage. I sold a newly released hardback novel today (I bought it new last week and hated it and gave up reading it) I only sold that because I could marginally undercut Amazon as it was less than the £15 charge for free delivery.

I think it must affect the lower priced items which with marketplace postage still worked out lower than Amazon. Now a low priced item with postage won't be much shy of an Amazon price for a shiny new copy. Ah well on the brightside as an Amazon buyer its good
  • Hi guys,
I'm trying the whole Amazon Marketplace thing for the first time, so I've been having a look at as many of the old posts as I can. Some great tips, especially about things I wouldn't have even thought about!

I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it up after I've gotten rid of all the unwanted books that have been lurking under my bed for the past year, but it sounds like the bug bites pretty quickly once you get started, so who knows? ;)

Hopefully I won't have too many problems. If I do, I'll run screaming to the thread to help me along! :rotfl:
