Well, that's exactly the sort of book I'd price at £10-£15. If it had a sales rank, which it hasn't. Though you do have to watch out for thrift, hippo & betterworld coming in at a silly low price. Even when that has happened I regularly sell such books for a £10 more than them. I even bought a barabra cartland one from thrift the other week when I saw how much they'd undercut the copy I'd just sold for £15, took a few weeks to arrive, but then sold again for £15 with betterworld undercuting that time by over £10. I'm just waiiting for that copy to arrive ;)

  • Rupert, I suppose you are right about the book I linked to, if I had a copy it would be worth trying for £10. I tend not to give Danielle Steel house space though.

I always price more than the Americans if they are the lowest prices for a book I am listing. They have awful feedback and buyers don't want to wait for the book to come from America.

I've recently been decluttering the house in general and have taken my 'unlistable' books to the boot fairs along with my household junk. I've been selling them at 30p each or 4 for £1, just to shift them. I have been pleasantly surprised at how many have sold. I was going to Ebay them as a job lot and would probably have got between £20 - £40, but I've still got a garage full of 'junk' books and a couple more boot fairs to do, so they can keep coming with me until I run out of household junk to shift. I've even got a 'regular' who comes each week and buys £5 worth of each books - lovely little gent.

    FFM :)

Don't know how to PM him, but might as well put it here. ISBN is 0-141-01702-3. Carlos Castaneda's A Separate Reality a yaqui way of knowledge. Can't see how this would be £70.

    Thanks.

It has a good sales rank and a very quick look suggests it is out of print. Personally I would match the lowest price and keep an eye on it.

It must be nice to be in such a position where you can sell at a loss, but if the objective is just simply to get your book collection out of the door why not just take them to the charity shop?

Meanwhile I pity any new sellers who are also trying to sell copies of the same books you are and price matches against yours thinking a profit is possible.

Scrap what I wrote earlier, I have calmed down now.
All I will say is this

Reduce: I'm reducing what I use and buy
Reuse: I'm reusing packaging for free from work to send all my items
Recycle: I'm recycling my unwanted items to prevent them going to landfill as my local charity shops currently don't accept books, they get too many.

If I decide to sell on my unwanted goods and take a loss on many of them, so what, they are mine to do with as I please!!!

PS: Another 4 sales in 24 hours this weekend.

You wouldn't mind sharing your seller id here would you? I'm always looking for new sources of stock which I can buy cheaply and sell at a profit!

Though if you really are making a loss on them, why not take them to a charity shop and make a donation at the same time instead of lining the royal mails pockets and amazons?

rare_stuff, Arkonite_babe has stated in her post that her local charity shops will no longer take books. My own local shops go through periods of refusing books as well (that's how so many of us sellers get stock in the first place, many sellers have arrangements with charity shops as the shops can't take more books).

  • Well all I can say is that the selling fairy has disappeard for me - after a very good September.

Also feedback is nil - but from the Amazon Discussion boards there has been a problem.

Ah well - I just wait to be switched back on

Perhaps it is a good job really as my village Post Office is being closed by the owners just before Christmas - they have basically destroyed a very busy Post Office in the last 3 years, in fact 6 months ago it was the best performing one in the area

So I am having to readjust my posting routine, which will now involve my bike and a round trip of around 5 miles - every other day I think, as I usually sell 1-2 books per day, only being a very small seller. I am also going to get myself a supply of stamps and will use my local post box, although I realise this will leave me without a POP, but if it is only penny books then I shall take the risk.

I shall visit my newly chosen PO this afternoon and hopefully will find them friendly.

Must ask for one of those waterproof cape things for my bike for a Christmas pressie

I have a question please. I have just sold a book which needs to go to the states for £125. My question is, what additional insurance do I need to cover the book?

    Many thanks in advance.
