hi there I have recently started selling a few books and videos on amazon to try and declutter the house, I bought my daughter a game a few months ago and wanted to list it on amazon but when I clicked the sell yours here button it came up that only pre approved sellers could list that item, I was wondering if that means you have to have a trader account or more feedback etc, I was wondering if anyone else knew what this is about? thanksOctober make £5 a day: £196.40 :j0

rosysparkle, you can change your seller id. Go to 'your account', 'your seller account', 'seller account information' and 'edit' your 'nickname'.
shellnkeeley, Amazon block games/toys selling prior to the run up to Christmas so that dodgy sellers do not sign up for the Christmas rush and then make-off with the cash.
The only official info I could find in their help pages was http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=14279571
I did receive this email in 2007:

Not sure if that is the current answer though - Rupert might know more if he is about.

Oh dear - I have heard of this happening, a few people on the Amazon seller connection board have reported it. Use the contact button for Amazon CS to ring you back and explain what happened. I doubt they will be very constructive or admit they caused a prob. In which case you have 2 alternatives - refund the customer [make sure you use a relevant reason in the drop down box as too many refunds can cause a prob on your account]. Secondly you could buy the item in a similar or better condition from another seller who has good feedback and seems to be reliable and arrange for them to send it to your buyer direct. When this happened to me because the book was damaged in storage I emailed the buyer and expalined what had happened and that they would get their copy but it was coming from another seller and to email me if there were any probs. Guess it went ok as heard nowt. Option 2 would probably suit if you are anxious to avoid poor feedback or if you have already given refunds.
Good luck

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread for the advice and tips. I've been busy listing every book and old cd/dvd I own, and sold 4 things yesterday! I now have about 300 items listed (I'm seeing ISBN numbers in my sleep - told someone my phone number started 978.. yesterday) and am hoping to clear all my clutter!
One quick question, if I buy books in for the purpose of reselling, do I have to register as a business? At the moment, everything I have listed was mine..
Looking forward to joining the club!0 -

As soon as you buy with the intention of selling then yes you need to register with HMRC. You have 3 months to do so and of course all your expenses are then tax deductible.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
