Selling Your Stuff on Amazon Part 11 - Advice for newbies in first two posts

  • Well done to all you folk having a clear-out as it's so hard to 'let go' of books sometimes isn't it? It looks as if others benefitted too so winners all round:beer:

My DH takes absolutely no interest whatsoever in my bookselling 'enterprise' except to complain about the amount of bookcases and books everywhere. As the amount never 'appears' to decrease;) he thinks I'm wasting my time with the whole idea of internet book-selling. Originally I started merely to raise some cash from selling the hundreds of books I already owned (being a lifelong bookaholic:o ) but once the bug bit I was (unbeknown to him:j ) 'buying in' whenever I saw a saleable book.

Still listing them on Amazon ( the few on there so far not yet sold ) but loads on GreenMet so far which has been great for me for selling very ordinary paperback novels for a nice steady income.

Now for the bad news:eek: . Our local Village Hall was holding an auction last month to raise funds for a village Christmas party for the children. I donated a few bits of furniture and bric-a-brac and could see that the stuff they had was just tat really. No books in sight at that point so I didn't go and bid on anything. 3 days later DH came home really chuffed that he'd been asked to help remove all that was left after the sale as they needed the hall empty for a function. He had 3 huge boxes in the boot all full of books, 67 in all:j . He had been instructed to 'just get rid of them, or keep them if you want' and had planned to pass them on to a charity shop knowing I already have plenty:eek: . He just offered me a quick peek in case there were '1 or 2' I wanted to keep.

They are lovely books(mostly) but of the huge glossy coffee-table variety that no-one wants to buy online because of the massive postage costs. But they are so nice I want to keep them all and I see another row brewing here.....

Just got a 5* rating from a buyer which is great of course, but they had a little moan about there being a price sticker on front of book which rather spoilt it.

I had a minor panic that I had missed something vital in my description, but no, there it is as bold as anything..large price sticker to front! Unfortunately it wasn't a sticker that could be removed, the book was so old I think the sticker had been assimilated.

Oh, and I don't know if it is affecting everyone but the Amazon site is down, I've been struggling to make a purchase all day and can browse, but when I try to search marketplace I just get 'page not found' The same thing happens when I try and search my listings, although I have been able to print off a packing slip for the only book I have sold this weekend.

A little ray of sunshine to all those of you about to have that 'sort'!!!
I had a sort and price check a few weeks ago and prior to this I sold 10 books in the month leading up to it, since the sort (approx 3 weeks) I have sold nearly 4x that amount :j so get sorting girls it's worth it.

    Hi Annie

I agree with you - I sorted a few weeks ago (my sales were dismal before then) and now things have picked up. Plus, when I get a sale, I am making more profit as I ditched all the books that wouldn't make me at least £3 profit.

Can you believe I sold a 1985 Minder annual yesterday for £11.50! Who on earth would want that! There's nowt as queer as folk, as they say.

Mind you, my contact who gives me loads of books (think it may be from a charity shop) has just given me another 5 great big boxes. Just as I have sorted and whittled them down, I now have more to go through! OH not pleased! They will have to wait 'til after Xmas as I have so much else to do.
