  • Can anyone give me advice on barcode scanners? Trying to keep the costs down to a minimum but just aquired (for free I may add!!!) the contents of a small bookshop, and quantities run into about 10k, so obviously not really feasible to do manually.

But how do you use them? Obviously it reads the barcode which gives the details, I know that bit, but how does it convert the details, what needs to be added and how do you upload these???

Sorry for all the questions, but I want to start listing these ASAP and get started (especially as I just lost my day job!)
  • Hello, is there a way of telling how many views your item gets?

Thanks Jannie - it's getting silly here. 5 delays turned into cancellations for the same book, 3 other delays that haven't materialised into anything else, all within 48 hours.
I emailed Amazon, and got a stock response, so will email again.

Not more so than usual Wendym - but Im a small time seller. Yours on the other hand does seem a lot - would the first one be the same buyer trying various times.

Sorry to hear about losing your day job.

There is some info in the 2nd post of this thread - the bit on the scanners has the title what if you've got the bug and bought loads? tips for listing quickly - written by yours truly. Do take the time to sort out your SKU and storing system before crashing in - it will pay dividends in the long run. Read the 1st post through too, there is alot of good tips throughout.

If you still have questions post again and I'll help if I can.

    Hi all,

Does anyone know much about playtrade? seams very similar to amazon - I'm mainly wondering if they have facilities for multiple uploads and similar?

    Joe
  • Hi Joe, I used to sell on Play until the prices were driven too far down by the big sellers - this happened because there is no fixed P&P unlike Amazon's £2.75.

There is a facility to do a bulk upload and you need to be a Playtrader to do this. You used to have to get the spreadsheet format from Play themselves - but they may have made this easier these days.

There is a Play thread here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=413654 we had quite a discussion on the bulk upload.

    Good luck

Thanks for the info, I did email that company but they have yet to respond. I may be being blind but can't see a way to shop online?

Guess I'll just have to wait for a response and not rush!

You could always phone them up and place your order, they were really helpful when I phoned them all that time ago. I see what you mean about their website - maybe they are upgrading or don't like internet sales anymore
