  • Well after a very good week I have absolutely no need to rush out to the Post Office today - absolutely no sales whatsoever over the weekend.

Here's hoping things pick up again during the week

I had a very good Friday on Amazon, 4 books in total and a couple of those were good ones, but no sales since late Friday evening, I do hope they put more money in the meter soon!

Mind you ebay was flying yesterday so maybe that's where all the buyers were? I sold several things for so much more than I had expected that I am actually having to fork out for special delivery from my own pocket on 2 items that went over £36 where I was expecting a tenner at most. It just shows how poorly I judge what sells and what doesn't.

Hi Purplenails - oops, I seem to remember reading about someone doing a similar thing and the 2 buyers agreeing to post each other the book. The seller then refunded them the postage by sending stamps to the value. Of course both buyers need to be happy about doing that for it to work. If they are not then you dont have many options to avoid probs as far as I can see ie they send them back and you post them off again with postage included. Or you buy copies off other sellers to be sent to the correct buyers - this may be more costly depending on the price of the books? Can't think of another option - good luck

Only problem now is one buyer isn't responding, and the other one is now sending me back the book so I can refund him his money, but so far- no book. I'm worried I'm going to get bad reviews for this, but I responded as soon as I knew, it's just the other buyer whose not contacting me- and therefore screwing the whole thing up- grrr...

Just bumping as I saw someone mentioned selling on Amazon on the 'Up your income' board.

2 books today, but one of them was only a 1p novel that I bought to read and forgot I had listed. Still, a sale is a sale.

    Hi All,
I wonder if someone can suggest what to do with an interesting book I have come across in a box bought to resell on Amazon

Its all in Russian - a 1957 book on 'someones' trip to London. The title is loosely translated as 'About that I have seen and learned and understood during a visit to London'. It has black and white pictures of tourist attractions and on the inner leaf the shows plotted the route that taken across from 'MOCKBA' (Moscow) to London and the back inner has a street map of London with places of interest marked on there. I can't tell if the owner has written these in or whether they were printed on.

Obviously I cant sell on Amazon but am loathe to throw it away in case it is of any value.

    Any suggestions??

I have never yet managed to sell a foreign language book, however why not give ebay a try..just be clever with your keywords in the title.

I've also never sold a foreign language book - although I find in strange that amazon dosen't allow global listings (i.e if i put a french John grisham novel on the uk site, the cheapest price might be £25, however would only cost about 4 euro to by from the french one)

Anyway - what do you guys do with the uncorrected book proofs that you get? I generaly only get them after the book itself comes out so nobody dying to get their hands on it...

These can not be sold on amazon, often they are also labelled as 'Advanced Reading Copies' and are given out for review purposes. Amazon do not permit the sale of these, though you can sometimes sell them to collectors on ebay, often they wil not get much higher bids than the normal copies.

Thanks for replying so quickly. However, I miswrote my question a bit. I meant to ask that "Given that I can't sell them on amazon....". I'm more wondering if any of the other big bookselling sites allow it - i've had very little success with ebay.

    Thanks,

    Joe

PS - anyone have any tips on getting annoying price stickers off? I've been using old fashioned damp cloth and fingernail but is a bit time-consuming....
  • Hi Joe

The removal of sticky stuff from covers was discussed a couple of years ago on the Amazon sellers board. If I remember correctly the favourite was lighter fuel (don't smoke whilst using) and nail varnish remover also works quite well.

I have sold spanish novels to spanish speakers living in the UK, I had a few in a job lot I obtained - I wouldn't usually choose to sell foreign language books.

No ideas on Advanced Reading Copies - give them to a charity shop?

    FFM :)
