Selling Your Stuff on Amazon Part 11 - Advice for newbies in first two posts

I have just listed an item that no-one else is selling.
I know what the ranking is, but can anyone give me a guideline on how to identify a 'strong' ranking?
(I won't put the rank here in case it's embarrassingly unpopular)
My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
I have an amazon listing question I could do with some help with.
I've won a skypephone in a competition that I want to list on Amazon -made by Amoi, model no WP -S1. The picture on the box ( haven't opened it yet) is identical to this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-Skypephone-Mobile-Phone-White/dp/B0014DQYHU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1219417001&sr=8-1
but when I click on the "sell one similar" button, it comes up with an ASIN that bears no relation to any of the numbers on the side of the box.
Is the ASIN an Amazon specific number, as I want to be sure that what I'm selling is the same thing. (I've only sold the odd book on amazon up till now.)
ThanksAll shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Would anyone be able to help me out- I've just been sent an email informing me I've sent the wrong book to a buyer (meaning I've done a swop between two buyers). And the only way I think I can solve this is either I ask them to exchange them, which seems unlikely they'll want to do, or I ask them to send them back to me, and then I resend, which is going to cost me a lot. Anyone done something similarly stupid and know of a way to sort it out neatly? Thanks in advance!0

Sorry can't help as I only sell books too. You could ask on the Amazon sellers forum as a few people who post there sell other items. Alternatively, after the holiday w/e just contact Amazon CS and ask for some advice?
Good luck0 -

Hi Purplenails - oops, I seem to remember reading about someone doing a similar thing and the 2 buyers agreeing to post each other the book. The seller then refunded them the postage by sending stamps to the value. Of course both buyers need to be happy about doing that for it to work. If they are not then you dont have many options to avoid probs as far as I can see ie they send them back and you post them off again with postage included. Or you buy copies off other sellers to be sent to the correct buyers - this may be more costly depending on the price of the books? Can't think of another option - good luck0 -

No wonder the Royal Mail are struggling to make ends meet
Hi there
could someone be kind enough to expand on this - Is it possible to get stamps as compo for not getting rec delivery signed for? This happens to me all the time - well quite a lot - actually more when I send personal stuff to my friend but then thats probably because she's more likely to mention they just posted it. I have tried to find a post pertaining to it but went back a few pages and couldn't find it. The last time I brought it up with the counter staff they just shrugged in a nonchalent "what can you do kind of way"
Cheers Everyone Hope the holiday slump is coming to an end0 -
To reclaim costs of recorded is really worth doing..I have enough stamps here now for all my priivate mail for years!
You need to ask the PO for the standard claim form for lost or damaged mail, or if you phone RM they will send some out. Unfortunately each un signed for recorded needs it own form and th eform makes no sense at all for trying to make a claim for item not signed for, but persevere. I did mine in batches and attached a cover note saying that I tried my best with the forms but basically I was claiming for lots of recorded items where they were delivered but never signed for. I started getting the compensation letters within 10 days, a full book of 12 1st class stamps for each and every unsigned for item. Thanks for this Soolin, you always take the trouble to get back and it is really appreciated. :T
One thing how do you know it wasn't signed for do you rely on the reciever to inform you for non personal stuff? This may be a deeply stupid question but i haven't had my morning caffeine shot yet. Does it show this if you input your number on the site or does it just tell you if it was delivered? I do competitions so I like the idea of being awash with stamps.:D
Thanks again for speedy response and good morning to everyone.0 -
With mine I went through all the recorded slips I had and if they weren't showing as delivered online but I had received positive feedback or any other acknowledgement that the item had arrived I claimed. For a couple of items I did tentatively ask the buyer if everything was OK, and then I also had wodges of stuff that went to work which they acknowledge dby email, so I knew they had been received.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. This is excellent advice to bear in mind for the future.
Does the amount of stamps bear any relation to the value of the goods sent? For example sometimes I send things of modest value to a friend but send recorded anyway because we know her post is unreliable and just figure it is a bit of encouragement  . Would it still be worth claiming on the basis of the service I paid for wasn't forthcoming rather than the value of the items sent.:D
Thanks again a great thing to know.0
