People, you knew the risks and you took them. Just because the company who offered you the cashback has gone bust, you expect the network to bail you out !! In my opinion, you should suffer the loss until the end of your contract. Its not the networks fault, its yours !!!
Well, even assuming that people knew the risks, strangely some people actually honour their agreements, I do not agree that the networks are without fault.

They knew very well, recently at least, that the more generous cash back deals were financially unviable if customers actually had the cheek/ability to correctly complete the cash back process and be prepared to go to court if they were lied to by the cash back retailers. The recent Watchdog programme highlighted that 3 were forecasting only a 60% success rate on cash back claims to a cash back retailer. 80% were succesful, retailer can't/won't pay. net result is that networks get retailers to advertise/flog their products on the cheap and then wash their hands of the matter when the retailer fails because of false business forecast PROVIDED BY THE NETWORK fails. Customers, stupid perhaps, are left on high tariffs and Networks. possible exception of Vodaphone, are laughing.

Therefore, I have no more sympathy for networks than I do for the cash back companies.
  • Actually they forecast 40%, but the same principle. At the end of the day customers did nothing whatsoever wrong; it was the fault of the dealers' own assumptions encouraged by the networks in return for making more sales. That does leave them with a moral responsibility to a much higher degree than any customer has one.

40%. Well thats even more ridiculous. Networks and retailers know exactly what they are doing. can't remember they name of that particular company. Remember the rather nice 4x4 the hard done buy retailer turned up though.
  • Was Chatterbox. I don't begrudge himn his 4x4; you don't even know it IS his. Even if it is - so what? At least he put himself in front of the cameras and I can well believe the scenario he was painting. Until cashback deals actually unfold no-one can be certain of the uptake. Certainly some of the worse companies probably pay up less than 40% of the time. A 3 or T-mobile salesperson could easily quote those kind of figures not caring about the probable ones. We ARE talking about high-pressure sales people here, backed by a greedy network only concerned with market share.

just to update i recieved a call from vodafone the number was (08080000133) first was offer 17.50 per month off remaing contract, i said i cant afford that as im in debt as it is.. was put on hold for a few mins then offered the 5.00 a month.. a big thankyou to vodafone
  • This is costing them a LOT. Yet they aren't complaining and it's doing their reputation no harm at all. Best be grateful you're with them and not one of the others who generally don't seem to give a damn! Perhaps they will be forced to follow a similar approach because of the damage it will otherwise do to their reputation.
