I just phoned vodafone and explained Phonebox direct had went into liquidation,I got my line rental reduced to £5 a month for remainder of contract. This doesn't make for loosing a years line rental but helps soften the blow.Number I phoned 0870 0779 779

Thank You Bhoyzone for this info! My Husband contacted Vodafone 15mins ago and was told as he was 6months into a 12m contract, he couldn't change anything until month 9. I then saw this thread, and so he phoned the Number 0870 0779779 as above, and was offerred half price line rental (£35 down to £17.50) for the remainder of the Contract. Re-confirmed that the Contract will still end May 2008.
Not brilliant, but a lot better than 15 minutes earlier.
Thanks again, and any others in this situation, try the above tel.num.

MSE UPDATE - please dont use the tel no above, 191 from your mobile is free and will get you straight through to customer services rather than needing to be redirected.

I just rung this number and i was told i had to call 191. I told the guy that others had called this number and had their line rental reduced but he said only 191 can do this.
  • I would definitely hold fire on that. Obviously it's a lot better than zilch and what the other networks are doing BUT it is VERY early days. When Mobile Connections went down it took a while (largely becuase, unlike here, it wasn;t clear what situation the dealer was in for a couple of months - which is why I applaud the administrators in this case) BUT Vodafone were very helpful after setting up a special team. I am hoping they will follow in that vein here, in which case if you downsize now you may not be able to accept better offers a little (hopefully) later. Further, if there's a stampede to go for this there is less incentive for them to offer something similar to the previous case. That would be an immense pity!

Well i called 191 and got a lovely Irish lady who was very willing to help.
I didnt get half price line rental but i did get 150 mins and 250 txt for £25 a month.
So i lost 350 mins (which i never used anyway) and saved £10 a month.
    3rd time lucky for me.

  • That's what they did recently with Mobile Connections and what I was hoping they would do this time, amongst other things. As I said, don't be too hasty despite the need!

Gutted about this - My vodafone contract ends in February but I was awaiting a couple of cashback claims from phonebox direct. Girlfriend has just taken a contract out with phoneboxdirect so is facing £420 out of pocket.
  • Kiss goodbye to the claims I'm afraid. If Vodafone does help as before it may make the pill slightly less bitter.
  • People, you knew the risks and you took them. Just because the company who offered you the cashback has gone bust, you expect the network to bail you out !! In my opinion, you should suffer the loss until the end of your contract. Its not the networks fault, its yours !!!
