I rang them on saturday and they just phoned me. Don't think the guy was aware I had rung on saturday as he asked if I was aware of the problem.
Anyway, I didn't have to haggle in any way he simply offered me a reduction from midnight tonight from £35 a month to £5 a month for the rest of my contract - 8 months left on a 12 month contract.
I think that is the fairest thing they could offer. I still keep my 500 minutes and 250 text a month. I did ask if this acceptance started a new contract and he said no, its just till your current contract finishes.0 -
From what I can remember, MSE advertised many of these cash back companies on the site. I would like to know what legal responsibility Martin Lewis and his company have, for the debt many people now find themselves in.
You can't go around expecting something back from a website who advertise. Its the responsibility of the company making the offer not anyone else. Do you think that the free papers have some responsibility for the adverts they run - of course they don't.
We have all been hit hard by this problem, stop trying to blame others apart from the people who made the offer.
If you are with Vodafone my advice is to sit tight, they are phoning everyone concerned and are being extremely reasonable about it now they have got their heads together. Read my post above0 -
jaddimom:- I would call and ask for the special team to give you a call back. It's not actually quite that straightforward but at least if you can get them to call you back from the special team you have given yourself the chance to get through to the right people. I would do more listening than talking when you do (not a good idea to post why).
mswallow:- When Mobile Connections went down a swarm of unhappy customers ranted and raved for weeks on end - it's actually quite refreshing on here that it has been more positive and helpful (as far as this can be). The ranters and ravers blamed everyone from the dealer (they just HAD to be crooks swanning away in warmer climes), the nasty networks, the useless Trading Stansards and the mealy-mouthed politicians - then watchdog and, finally, each other. It did more harm than good and many people took very inadvisable steps, cancelling direct debits etc - the very worst thing they could do. Now you are attacking the website itself. In my view, this website is a goldmine of information for us. If we MUST blame someone then it is OURSELVES. Let's stop crying and see what positive things we can actually do to help ourselves. Primarily THAT means talking effectively with the networks. Whilst that may not always be easy, they are the only ones who CAN help - but they are under no legal obligation to do so. Like it or not, THAT is where WE are. I learned an awful lot recently when Mobile Connections went down - and it has stood me in good stead now. I read and followed the threads on that with great interest for a couple of months and that is why I had some confidence in Vodafone especially. I have already taken up another cashback deal and this hasn't put me off. Out of more than 27 of these the only three we (my friends and I) have lost out on is this one - and we went into this company fully aware of the risks we were taking with them.0 -

I am not trying to pass the blame, but if a reputable company advertises something you would expect atleast an apology. I know that if, for example, I had advised my friend go with a house insurance company that had turned out to go into insolvancy I would be devistated- I am quite frankly suprised Martin has not sent an email around apologising for the fact, that something he advertised has turned out to be wrong.
Lets be honest, at the end of the day MSE is an affilate to these companies, and has made money of them.0 -

Hi All,
After contacting Voda yesterday, who refused to reduce the line rental, and said I had to wait for the letter that was being sent out to all customers affected, I have just had a call from a very nice man saying Voda are offering a rescue package to all customers affect and I can have half price line rental at £17.50 for the rest of my contract.
My husband phone is on the same contract, hes not had a call yet so just keeping fingers crossed0 -
No, but he did suggest it.
If I suggest to a parent that a child should have a vaccine for disease X. It later turns out that vaccine directly causes another disease. The parent comes back to me, clearly upset, and ask why I advised it. Do I have a proffesional responsibility to apologise? Would I say- "I didn't force your child to have the vaccine," and ultimatley, wouldn't the government who had advised the medical professionals that the drug was safe- ultimatley pay out compensation if the drug company went into insolvency.
Different scenario, same situation.0 -

When the "special department" rep rings you, refuse that half price offer on the grounds you can't afford it.
If you turn down their first offer, they will then make the much better offer of keeping your current tariff, but only paying £5/month till the contract reaches its end.0 -
We are all grwon ups, we read information, we research and we make our own decisions.
MSE passes on information, it is up to the readers to decide what THEY want to do.
If sites such as this were to be held liable everytime something like this happened thay would cease to exist and we would all be the losers.0
