These concerns never had scientific backing.

No you don't. You need longer wire between the hub and where it plugs into the filter/wall.

Don't understand what you are suggesting

The socket in the wall is by my feet, the home hub is 2 feet above that on my desk.

The hub and wall socket need to be in another room (preferably downstairs out of the way). My PC can then be connected by wifi rather than ethernet

Back to the BT engineer needed?

If that's what you want then your ISP can arrange Openreach to do that, but it will probably cost you £130 or so.

That's a lot of money. Does it have to be BT?

The socket is the property of Openreach. They have to be the ones to move it. You can't contact them directly, you have to go through whoever supplies your phone/internet access.

An option that doesn't involve moving the phone socket is to buy a Wi-Fi router, connect that to the BT Hub via ethernet cable and locate it wherever you want to. Then you can turn off the Wi-Fi in the BT Hub and use the Wi-Fi router to provide the W-Fi.

It doesn't need to, that's the point. Have you not read any of the other posts?

It's quite likely then that the WiFi RF level from your PC where you are working will be the same as when you had the router nearby.

    Except it does...

I have already explained, I want the wall socket away from my office out of the way and the hub can be moved as well.

Interesting suggestion, but unless I run a long cable out of my office the wifi router will be in the same place as now, so not practical, as my office is upstairs in a bedroom

I'm guessing I was spot on with the following then:

You go ahead and throw £130 at OR and I'll just sit here and laugh.

No you are not because I want it moved and a long cable is not the answer
