OS Daily Thread Thursday 15th November 2007

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 15th November 2007. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Good Morning All
Seems MSE has had problems again while I have been travelling so have missed them. Found a older OS and added the header, so I think I little normality is back. Thanks Techies:A . Not quite as early as it seems here as I am 1 hour ahead. Trying to keep this quiet as DH asleep at the side of me, and even keyboard seems noisy with no clicking on. At Amiens in France, going to show our friends who are travelling home with us a little of the Somme for an hour before going on to Calais. 21.15 ferry reserved to allow shopping in Calais, and missing London traffic as we go north. Don't know how you locals cope with it we are not used to traffic jams and dont handle them well.
Morning AussieLass I see you lurking. I hope everything is slowing improving for all of you as I can see that Tummie Bugs/Cold-Flu bugs seem to be abounding, and please keep them, as I don't wish to participate!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
(((Big Hugs))) to all of you who are feeling carp, poorly kids, gkids OH's or would just like one.
Scuzz - Send an email to your manager politely raising your concerns over your safety of arriving in the pitch dark and office temperature upon arrival. They can't say they are not aware then. Be nice and upset/worried about it rather than angry. It may be that they need that as evidence to get someone else off thier butts.
The journey has been brilliant, and the trip across the Massif Central leading to the Millau Bridge was particularly spectactular.

(Sorry not done the links very well you will need to copy and paste them)
The last time we travelling this way across France must have been over 25 years ago and was horrendous, but with the new Free Autoroute and the Bridge was a breeze.
  Just check out the weather for today in this part of France and temps will be lucky to get above 6!  Wonder how many t-shirt+jumpers+cardi's I can get under my coat (thin wind and waterproof, but no padding!). Just looked where I've come from and full sun and 18 degrees forecast there, someone want to check my sanity!:o
EVEN WORSE - DH just been out to the car and it is covered with white stuff all over the roof and boot. Think he said it was FROST!
Better get off now, nearly time for shower, catch you later tomorrow when I wake up.
Take care
DG

Morning DONNY - and all who follow. Good to hear from you. Yes, MSE went down twice this week. Mass panic attack for everyone. The techies are still working on reviving some of the older posts so hopefully it won't be long before everything is back to normal. It's also freezing cold here in the UK so be warned - you'll need your thermals when you get back! Hope you're having a good trip back.
Well, I had a good night's sleep so I hope to tick more things off my 'to-do' list today, especially some Christmas wrapping, which I must get done before I do any more shopping - I really don't know what I've got in my stash now - all I know is that there is no more room under the spare bed for presents!
I'll have a quick swish and swipe downstairs this morning and prep the veg for dinner, which will be chicken a la something - haven't decided yet - then get wrapping.
I suppose I had better go and have my shower before DH gets up - might have another cuppa first, the one I've just had was lovely - what would we do without a cup of tea first thing in the morning?
(((Hugs))) to all in need and see you later. Have a great day.

Good-morning donny-gal & all to follow,
DGS really enjoyed his little outing this morning and XDIL is definately going to keep taking him every Thursday morning. I caught up with a bit of housework. Made some biscuits & started on cards this afternoon. Been on the phone for ages  to our internet provider as I couldn't get on the net, while DH's laptop was fine. It's all sorted now but took ages.
I suppose it didn't help when he asked questions like *go into your control panel?* and I said where's that?I could hear a big sigh.
Snowy I don't think male robins can get hen pecked.
Haribo I hope everything went well at the hospital and the doctor has got feeling back in his arm.
(((hugs))) to those with any wog's that are going around. Have a great day. ByeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

Morning everyone
DonnyGal, enjoy the rest of your trip. It sounds like you had a fabulous time, even if it is an exceptionally long drive to get home. Thanks for posting a picture of the Millau Bridge - it looks absolutely amazing.
AussieLass, little Robins might be sweet, petite, cute and adorable, but there is a lot of pecking power in those dainty little beaks. I know I wouldn't dare argue with the feisty little madams.
Today...onwards and upwards with the housey stuff. It's still chaos out there, but it is getting better. I need to do a run to the recycling place with a load of glass etc, and also have a big bag of stuff for the charity shop. I was in a charity shop recently and when someone came in with a bag of clothes they were told not to leave it because they already had too much stock. It's not that I think they were ungrateful but- maybe I should phone round them all before setting off, just to ensure that my donation will be accepted.
I'm still loving my time off wo*k and cleaning the house is infinitely more satisfying...do I really have to go back on Monday?
Have a lovely day all.

Unfortunately without either a lottery win, and OH with a large salary or a miracle, yes!!

Morning all, I have just waved Mr Twit off to work and I've sneaked online using his lapop....it's soooo much faster than mine.
Already on my second cuppa, although I have crept back into bed
About to start repairing Miss Twit's skirt....how do they manage to split the seams.
When that task is done, it's into the shower and off on the school run.
Got to go to the bank and I'm playing golf today, not played for weeeks, so that should benteresting
No ideas as to what tea will be, hoping something will fling itself out of the freezer.
Stefejb, I saw that your DGS likes daleks..(or was it garlic) anyway, have you seen the link that Peem did on the knitting thread.....exterminit.....
Donnygal, have a safe journey.
Snowy, well done on the cleaning. :T
Hugs to the poorlies and I hope adam Pink is still improving.
Take care all...

Morning all
DONNYGAL scary bridge! Fantastic photo but I'm also scared of heights.
I love robins too, have one in my garden. They really like eelworms which are pretty disgusting but you can sprinkle them on the ground. Blackbirds like them too.
Looks like it might be a bit brighter here today and I might get some washing on the line. Am trying to find a beavers group for DS to go to. Have had his name down for one for 6 months. Aparently you have to put their name down years in advance!
Hope to make some shea butter bars today for presents. Also need to test my wine and see if it's ready. Am after some brewing stuff second-hand to make beer. Also have to study at some point and have gardening club at school if it's not tipping it down!
Have a good day everyone xxxx:A0 -
Loraine - I do hope you start feeling better soon; it's such a shame you have to go to work. I know how you feel about not having time to be ill. That's the most frustrating thing, I think.
DONNY - we've been to France several times over the last few years but we don't need to use the Millau Viaduct - it's something we are promising ourselves we'll do soon. It looks fantastic - a real work of art and British architecture at its best! Unlike Britain, though, it was completed within time and within budget. We'd still be waiting for it over here. Enjoy your drive through France - at least you'll be acclimatised to the weather back here!
AUSSIE - I bet its lovely and warm where you are, isn't it? Think of us shivering our b***s off!
Well, DH has just gone, having had to defrost the windscreen first. Lots of HM goodies in his packed lunch and porridge in his tummy, so that should keep him warm. I'm just about to put the WM on, clear up the breakfast things, clean the bathroom and run up to the shops for the paper, then I'm going to get stuck into some Christmas wrapping. I also have a few more books to list on Amazon and I must order some photos - I'll try and find a site with special offers. I've collected all the photos I want for the albums I'm doing as Christmas presents; the ones I do every year of the the grandchildren for their mum and dad and my mum, and also one of DS2 and his GF's little kitten, so I need to get them ordered asap.
Anyway, off to get my chores done so see you all later - have a great day and (((Hugs))) to all in need.
KathyXX
Birds in my garden: about 10 million blue and coal tits, one robin (who eats digestive biscuits) a pair of wrens, several pairs of blackbirds, no starlings (don't like them - they take all the food), loads of sparrows, some murderous crows (they stole a baby blackbird and killed it in front of the parents during the spring - really distressed DH and me), some noisy magpies, a couple of finches (not sure which ones, yet), a wood pigeon that sits on the chimney pot and hollers down it at unsociable hours of the day and, occasionally, a sparrowhawk who sits on top of the shed.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Morning All
Its soo cold here - have turned the heating up for a while. British Gas man turned up yesterday so all sorted for the time being, was early enough so I could go out and have a lovely lunch with my friend.
Today will be housework, washing and ironing this morning. Popping out at lunchtime to have my eyebrows waxed, then paperwork this afternoon.
Need to think of something silly for DS to wear to school tomorrow for children in need.
Pork chops and chicken portions tonight probably with cheese and bacon mash, roasted veg and sweetcorn. Outside freezer is nearly empty - cant wait to go shopping and fill it up - once done we will write a proper inventory of it and keep it up to date.
Off now to wake up DD.
