Very high electricity bill!

Hello,

I would really appreciate the advice. Our electricity bill is extremely high. I have tried to join the Energy club to get comparisons and maybe change supplier and it even states I can't as the usage Falls under a commercial property!

We were unable to read the electricity meter initially as it was an old dial one but can now submit accurate readings. Their last three estimates for electric were 82278, 80519, 78864 (Nov, Dec, Jan) They state we use 17.89 units per day.

Green Neywork Energy have stated the projected year cost will be £3143.91 for electric alone and £350.79 for gas. The meter reading this month is 60758 and gas 2871. The gas bill seems reasonable. 2 of us live in a 1 bed flat. We have the usual electrical appliances; TV, PlayStation, microwave, kettle, washing machine. No tumble dryer or heaters. But do use a hairdryer once a day. Does the electricity reading seem very high? I know all households are different. I have no idea. Our gas/electric is around £160 a month. I didn't pay this for a four bedroom house!

I look forward to your responses. Thanks in advance :)

Your electric estimated readings are going down? Now at 78864 from 82278? but your actual reading "that you have now submitted" is 60758. What tariff are you on, and what does your provider say about commercial property?

  • Take a photo of your meters and send them to green network energy.

Those readings don't line up so something's going wrong either they've taken over the wrong supply or you maybe reading the wrong meter?

    Welcome to the forum.

The electricity figures you have given - for consumption and cost - do not make sense.

Even if you used 17.89units(kWh) every day of the year that would be 6,529kWh which although very high would cost under £1,000 on most tariffs.

What are the 3 estimates for Nov, Dec, January(78864/80519/82278) if your 'meter reading today' is 60758? or should that be 788.64kWh + 805.19kWh + 822.78kWh = 2416kWh which is approx 26kWh a day

    More information please

Those three meter readings are ones the company estimated.

    Nov: 78864
    Dec: 80519
    Jan: 82278
    (Estimates from GNE)
Feb: 60758 (Own reading from meter)

I have sent photographs as well. The bills seem so high.

The tariff is called Green Network Energy standard variable V1. I pay a fixed £57 by direct debit but they state I owe a further £700. These seems ridiculous!

A lot of very confusing numbers and terminology here.

As a new user you cant post photos but use something like imgur and change the "." to "dot" and someone here will convert it.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

What information do you need? I don't understand anything about the kWh and usage etc. Total novice combined with baby brain!

Robin9 the numbers are just what they predicted. It isn't a commercial property. When I submitted the reading to get online comparisons it said it was comparable to a commercial property. Maybe I'm being confusing, I have have no clue! Sorry. It probably isn't helpful.

I just want advice really to know if the current I obtained is super high. Could there be a problem with the meter? I'm in a 1 bed flat. I just can't see how my bills are nearly triple what I was paying for a 4 bed house!

What was the starting reading you gave them when you moved in?

It's no use basing your sums on estimated bills and usage. Especially when the meter readings you've given appear to have gone backwards.
So if you didn't give them a starting reading (which you should have) what figure have they used as the initial one to calculate your first bill?

No one can tell at the moment if it's ridiculously high because your figures don't make sense without the extra information.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
