Thanks super, and that's where my problem lies, not knowing what to backup or even how, which is why I was looking for something very simple and straightforward.
You probably need to give yourself some credit as you already manage multiple quotes on this forum, something I doubt I could do...lol

You have also already backed up your important docs to USB. Do the same on a couple of DVDs and leave them in different places. If your PC crashes the all you need is to do is reinstall the operating system from the CD that came with your computer and then restore your documents onto it.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

OK, so for me to back up anything to a CD / DVD is it as simple as opening the program, inserting the CD/DVD right click on the program right click send to CD/DVD?

If it's that simple I think I can manage that :rotfl:

    Hope this helps.

The choice of your backup media would depend amongst other things on the size of data you want to back up. I backup a large amount of data (docs, pics, audio and video files) and therefore mainly use external hard drives with large capacity to do so. If the total size of your files allow, then start by using media like CD or DVD.

What do you mean by media?

Media is purely the physical article that your data is backed up on, be it a CD, DVD, USB pen drive or what ever.

And a DVD looks the same as a CD but holds about 7 times more data. A CD burner can only write to CD but a DVD burner can write to both types of disc.

Yes according to that, you have a dvd writer so you can write to any dvd-r or dvd-rw disc
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

Guys, my link in post 78 regarding my system, it says this:

    Software: Acer Self Burn Recovery

Anyone know what that means, and what it recovers, is it a back up?

It may seem that I'm slow at digesting your information / advice, but it is sinking in albeit slow.

A dvd-r is writable once only but a dvd-rw is re-wrtiable again and again.
