Depending on the drive in the old laptop you'd need something like:
IDA hard drive - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/149278#
or
SATA hard drive - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/1492680 -
thanks for all

me again, sorry to be a pain, how would i know which type to go for?Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0 -

I want to know that too! Thanks for asking.
The hard drive from my now-dead laptop says on it:
MODEL: HTS541680J9SA00 5400RPM
5V 700mA DC 80GB SATA
So, do the letters SATA mean that I want the SATA one of the two caddies mentioned, or is there more to it than that?
Thanks,

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Guys, my link in post 78 regarding my system, it says this:
Software: Acer Self Burn Recovery
Anyone know what that means, and what it recovers, is it a back up?
It may seem that I'm slow at digesting your information / advice, but it is sinking in albeit slow.
You probably already know the answer now as you asked a while ago but here goes...
I had a Acer PC a few years ago, they include a blank Cd or DVD so you can burn an image/recovery disk yourself, you use this to get your pc in its delivered state incase you need to do a system restore.
It will be explained in the manual wich will be on the hard drive if you didnt get a printed copy0 -
I have had a BT digital vault for a while.
At first it was great. Then my pc died and I got a laptop. The laptop was a Lenovo, and insisted on calling me "lenovo user" in its folder structure, instead of my usual user name, because I'm (obviously) the user with administrator rights. So the vault wouldn't recognise the folders on my new laptop as equivalent to the folders on the old pc, even though I had rescued the HDD from the desktop, and used a caddy to transfer all my files across to the laptop. The vault doesn't let you copy files from one vault folder to another, and I didn't want to spend hours (and use lots of bandwidth) uploading all my photos again. I also didn't want to fill up the vault, since I haven't been able to find a way of deleting stuff to make more space. I set the system to back up a small subsection of my stuff (just the recent things since the change of machine) but it wasn't very satisfactory, because it wouldn't then automatically include new photos, for example.
My first laptop has now suffered water damage, and my new laptop has Vista rather than XP so the folder structure is different again. I have the old laptop's HDD in a caddy again. Having begun by feeling that the digital vault was just what I needed, I am now getting increasingly frustrated by the difficulties involved in coping with changing from one machine to a new one.
Can anyone give me any advice on managing my vault? Or can anyone suggest an alternative system I could use? I do like the online system - both my recent computer problems have rendered the whole computer completely unusable, at least in the immediate term, and being able to get at the online vault from somewhere completely different was fantastic. I also really like the way that with large files it only uploads the changes to the file - my outlook file is huge, but once the vault software had completed the initial upload (which took several attempts and lasted ages and ages) it was be very quick to make changes to it. I don't want any system of DVDs etc, because I know I'm not self-disciplined enough to keep putting the right disks in the drive at the right time. I want something that I can set once and then forget for months or years until there's a problem and I need to restore stuff. I've been paying £5/month for the vault, which seems to me worth it for the freedom from having to remember to do anything.
Any advice gratefully received.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Hi All,
For those of you with a business and you want to back up a server with apps like exchange server e-mail http://www.mcware.co.uk
They are experts in VM Ware (which is not owned by MC Ware!!! I wish)
Coupled with an FTP file back up this could be the simplest disaster plan

me again, sorry to be a pain, how would i know which type to go for?The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0
