  • For what it's worth I've come to think that this whole GTC thing is just eBay trying to up the percentage of sellers who "upgrade" to sponsored, after their listings have been "lost" in search after a couple of months.

Since all listings are now GTC the position hasn't changed at all, we are all in the same boat.

  • ...with the exception that if you pay a higher percentage in fees as sponsored, your listings are in theory lifted higher in the general search rankings.

That's always been the case and of course ebay have many different ways to lift your ranking- none of which are explained or understood. For example, fast and free is given higher rankings, so is being a business, and being a powerseller, so apparently is a history of good sales on an MVL.

It is obvious that not everything can be given priority , so there is now way to know what the metrics actually are to get your items on the first page. I for instance sell a range of things in the exact same category with the exact same policies and everything- yet some are on the front page and some I can barely find at all. On occasions I've found my business items with a good sales history and with 100% + feedback behind private sellers with poor feedback.
