So seems like business as usual.. for now? Or dare I hope ebay might've realised how unpopular their new "improvement" was, caved in and scrapped it due to the backlash?

edited to add- have tried just now and it appears GTC is the only option. :( Fees show as 0.00 for private account but no clarification about the renewal fees.

I think I can understand one of the reasons Ebay have instituted a good till cancelled.

It's my understanding that new listings get a small advantage in the search algorithm so, quite a few sellers were using the 5 or 10 day listings to continually get pushed up the search rankings.

Having everyone on a GTC with a 30 day renewal does level the playing field a bit.

If you've got spare listings there's presumably nothing stopping you ending items and then relisting under 'Sell as Similar' to get the bumps, unless they are watching for that also.

Just a thought, not 100% sure.....

I just checked mine at 00.45 am 2 April and tried Sell Similar and the only option showing was Good till cancelled so maybe that's it kicking in on 2nd. The main problem, as soolin has said, will be keeping track of the 30 days. I think this is a crazy change! There are many selling platforms available now and I can see a lot of people giving up selling on EBay now. The straw that broke the camel's back! :(

To be fair, people were saying that when the new feedback rules were introduced(no bad feedback for buyers), then when defects and metrics were introduced etc. Yet ebay remains unbeatable. And that's why they can get away with whatever the hell they want.
For my part I'm not listing any BINs in April, will try with just auctions instead.

True enough but this change just seems crazy. I would imagine that it could become difficult running our lives and trying to keep track of the 30 days. Maybe it will be easier than I think but time will tell. I think I'll be changing everything to auction also. One way to get round the problem hopefully.

The other problem this creates is, when we are going away for a few days or longer, we could previously have listed for 5, 7, 10 days and worked it out for our listings to end a few days before we went away so we had time to post any parcels. Now, even if we changed everything to Auction, would we be able to end all the auctions that had no bids on them without penalty or I'm assuming that we will still be able to choose 5, 7, 10 days for auction to fit in with holidays/short trips away?

Does anyone fancy starting a petition and see how many people will add their signatures to it? Surely if we got a lot of people to sign it, they might have a rethink.

I've seen at least 4 petitions in the US, plus the supposed strike running at the moment- I posted about the strike at least somewhere on this thread.

Also as at this morning if I list or relist a BIN I get only the GTC option with thisstatement:

    Good 'Til Cancelled
To help you sell your item, fixed price listings can only be listed with a Good 'Til Cancelled duration. Listings renew automatically every 30 days, based on the listing terms at that time, until all quantities sell or the listing ends. Each time a listing renews and whenever an item sells, you’ll be charged applicable fees.

So, please remember my little post about being careful listing early in the month as you'll end up double listing/renewing in 3 months time .

  • I don't know why but I was under the impression that the GTC was due to start on the 3rd.

I have just listed an item for the first time since the new Good 'til Cancelled rule has started, which has made me stop and think ..

I have about 200 items listed, some of which have been on for a few months .. I just relist as required, lowering the price each time.

Now I see that I have 1000 free listings, which seems good, but I want to check, will items that will run over automatically now because of the new rule also be included ?

I'll not mind if they are free 'run overs' but I was caught out last year, when I first tried GTC and ended up paying 35p each month for items only worth a couple of quid.

    thank you
  • This is the url to an eBay 3 Min article on free listings.

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/listings/listing-tips/free-listings?id=4163

The paragraph that concerns me is:-

The following count toward your monthly allocation of free listings:
    Manually relisted items
Automatically relisted items if you're a business seller
Good 'Til Cancelled duration original listings (all sellers)
Good 'Til Cancelled renewals if you're a business seller
Listings that you end early, or we end early
Duplicate identical auction-style listings (even if one or more of those listings doesn't appear on eBay immediately)

Its possible that this page needs updating but the line "Good 'Til Cancelled renewals if you're a business seller" suggests that private sellers will be paying 35p for every GTC renewal.
