I had a GTC automatically restart on my private account and I was charged 35p even though I had 998 free listings left for the month
On contacting ebay via live chat I was refunded the 35p
Was told the GTC will automatically come off the free listings which is contradictory as I was charged was told this was due to the listing starting before the new rules kicked in
    Very confusing

Just done a couple of BINs from template in Advanced tool, GTC is set and no listing fee charged. Had to select the Best Offer box, it wasn't preset.

The issue is not on the first listing, which shows as free, but on subsequent re lists. In the US where the GTC kicked in a month ago some sellers are being charged on the relist and ebay have given clear but opposing advice on this. Some sellers have posted cut and paste emails from ebay saying GTC will be chargeable on each relist if the advanced tool was used on the first listing, others have posted clear responses from ebay saying there will be no charge regardless of what tool was used.

The community boards have asked and asked for a proper ruling from ebay, but so far no definitive response has been given. It doesn't actually appear that ebay know themselves what the system will charge or not.

OK, thanks. For high value stuff I'll be cancelling at 29 days and doing a new, slightly changed, listing anyway. Lower value stuff, let's wait and see what happens.

I know that there is a load of confusion about this issue but what I don't understand is, what difference does it make to ebay whether you list using quick listing or advanced tool?
How can they justify charging for using advanced tool - surely it doesn't cost them anything?
  • Imagine this scenario:-

Some upper mucky exec in ebay central floats out of the exec. washroom having done 6 lines of the best Columbian marching powder.

It comes to him in a chemical infused haze that GTC listings get indexed free of charge by google.

The commands get passed down the chain and it's policy, there isn't time to overhaul listing tools or update information pages, it's just another day @ eBay central. The sellers will sort it out eventually innit..:mad:

It will come to nothing eventually. For this we can be sure.

This is useful bit of info, thanks. Might indicate they really do plan to scrap the renewal fee that has existed until now for those that were already using GTC willingly, but now that it's mandatory they're changing the rules. Because if they don't they have to expect many people ending GTC on day 29. The fact that they're refunding the fees is encouraging.
  • So before I would list 100 items, they will end after 30 days and I would relist them again.

Now I will list 100 items and on the 25th day I will close all my auctions and relist them again. Nice of ebay to give me extra pointless work.

Don't trust ebay one iota that they will take it out of my free listings, their system is about as reliable as a chocolate teapot. If I don't cancel them I'm sure I'll be greeted with a nice fat invoice for £35 every month.

The trouble I have with this is that I don't want to relist after 30 days, I want to relist when its a max £1 FVF.
