Hi Mark, yes of course it is, but solicitors especially if recommended by the developer have proved very negligent and many are being sued, but although you are compensated you are still stuck in a property you can't sell. The lenders won't touch these properties and their value has plumeted.

the mainstream builders like taylor wimpy, Persimmon are rubbish generally, small, poor quality new builds, ended up buying a George Wimpy house before they merged, bigger and better quality

No idea about the new build companies you talk about - but we bought a new build from Bloor last year - process was very simple, they took our house in part exchange, gave us a good deal.

Yes we had snags - but Bloor fixed them promptly.

We also paid £5k more than our neighbours - but we bought off plan, so were able to get want we wanted - whereas they bought as the property was finished.

    Would buy from Bloor again.

    Mark

I see. So your home is not a leasehold? if not, do you have to pay maintenance , have your roads been adopted by the council or do you have to maintain them?

I live on a freehold house on an estate with a private road.

I pay service charges just the same as those who are leaseholders here. From what I know freeholders, like me, have less protection than leaseholders in this situation.

    ETA. Yes

Leasehold properties on this estate sell easily - as do the freehold houses. No problem with mortgages.

That is interesting, where are you in the country? leaseholders in houses don't have the same rights as leaseholders in flats. even so there are tribunals and cost of your landlord to pay for there to! Are you able to control your maintenance fees and decide who the maintenance company are?

    Kent.

Yes. We own the freehold of the estate and have our own management company of which I am a director. We employ a managing agent to do most of the work but we make final decisions - like setting service charges.

Brexit was the right decision; but the execution has been terrible

Or maybe the execution is exactly as planned to try and sabotage a democratic decision, the EU has previous form for this of course, but maybe that is taking conspiracy ideas a bit too far? However I think the anger now building across Europe at the EU makes Brexit just a sideshow tent on a much larger changing landscape.
