I am considering joining Avon. I currently do party plan in the evenings and from that have built up a large circle of friends. I have most days free as I work mainly in the evenings so I will see how it goes. The AM is coming to see me on monday so the information I have found on this thread has been really helpful.

One question I do have. Is it difficult to become a sales leader. I have my own team in the partyplan but is it worth doing with Avon and do I need to have a large team to qualify?

Hi, welcome to the thread :)

No it's not difficult to be a sales leader, they ask everybody if they want to do it from what I gather. i'm on my 3rd campaign and I'm a trainee sales leader. You need 5 people signed up in your team to become a fully fledged sales leader then you get paid based on your teams orders. Your AM will be able to go through all this with you, they'll love it if you say you want to be a SL straight away!

    Hi everyone, great thread!

I'd love to know if people think Avon can provide a small but reliable income? By that I mean, does it tend to pay similar amounts once you get into it?

I'd like to set up as a freelance typist but don't want to rush into anything too quickly. I thought selling Avon might be good experience for me and an opportunity to see how well I manage as self-employed. I could always combine the two later on if things go well.

I'm concerned about the income side of things because I'd have to register as self-employed and make a whole new housing benefit claim (I'm a lone parent). So I would need to have a realistic amount of projected earned income to declare on it.

I know we're only talking about earning £20 a week here but being on benefits, every penny is something to worry about.

    Hi :)

I haven't been a rep that long (on my 3rd campaign) so more experienced people might come along and give you better advice. But I would say it depends on where you live, how big your territory is, how much you can sell to friends and family, how much work you are willing to put into etc. The only way to know if you are going to earn would be to actually sign up and try it. If you had the time Sales Leadership might be a good option for you because you earn off your own sales plus off your teams.

I've only just started as a trainne sales leader but basically you recruit people by asking everyone you know, asking customers you wouldn't mind losing (don't ask your best customers!) doing brochure drops with expired brochures, asking people in the street, advertising anywhere you can. There are lots of ways really :)

Once you have found people that are interested, you sign them up, provide them with brochures and order forms for their first two campaigns (you get this refunded) Train and mentor them so they know what they are doing and just be there to help them whenever they need it.

I've only got two reps so far but i'm loving it :D If you are interested in becoming a SL ask your SL or ASM (whoever signed you up) for some info.

I've just heard that a freelance project I thought I'd be working on now isn't going ahead. The plus side is that is wasn't worth that much as they were only willing to pay £7 an hour and so later this month I will have more time for Avon. So I might be going down the sales leader route sooner than I planned!

Do you think its worth having a website? I'd be happy to recruit and train avon reps from my general region, not just my local town, so I was just wondering how best to advertise.

Avon provide a template website for SLs if you require it. You are not allowed to produce your own one, for legal reasons.

Could I ask if you can pick your sales leader/area manager? I'm only asking as my sister is currently a rep with Avon but after deciding to move to Nice in the summer, she's giving this up.

I'm planning on becoming a rep and taking over her limited customers but the only reason stopping me at the moment is her Area Manager. She initially had a really nice helpful lady who left shortly after my sister joined, and after going without one for a while was 'allocated' a lady who never replies to her emails or phone calls, won't give her any more roads and in fact took away her only road which consisted of her entire customer base. Her badgering, she reluctantly let her keep her road (about 20 houses) but won't respond to requests for anything further.

She's really dishearted by the whole thing as when she joined was really enthusiastic, and had a lot of support from her Manager. I was wondering if I joined under a Sales leader of my choice, perhaps I'd get a different result, and maybe even another road or two. I won't need much in the way of training as I'm getting that at the moment helping my sister out!, but maybe some telephone or email support if/when I need it so my sales leader doesn't necessarily have to be in my area, unless of course Avon insists on this.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

    Hi Blondetotty

You can't pick your ASM as they're area specific, but you can sign up with any SL. If there is one on here you can go with them however far apart you live, and as you'll already have your sister's customers... :)
