    Hello all,

I am new to Avon so I just thought I would say hello.

I actually joined last week but I am taking over an area from someone else so she has got all the orders I need to put in today. I get the commision without putting in the graft! Not bad eh!

I have a round of approx 135 houses and I am planning on re-canvassing the whole area by putting a little slip with each book introducing myself and asking them to tick a box if they would like to recieve or not like to recieve.

I would like to ask you all a question. Is it worth buying 135 books or buying half that and doing 2 separate runs? Also I have heard some people run half their area on 1 campaign and the other half on the next. Any advice on this would be great.

Although I am looking forward to it I am slightly scared so any advice would be great!

Also I have been offered another road with approx 100 house, would you suggest I take this on too or wait until I have a bit more experience?

    Thanks guys

    Jem

I'm quite excited now ... at least 6 girls at work today said they'd rather give me their Avon money than the 2 current Avon regulars at work :rotfl:OH said he would drive me round with my order deliveries and will even canvass if he doesn't get a job soon :p

My friends just finished her first campaign and got £240+ orders and has only done her (smaller than mine!) street so far. Hoping I'll get my street as I've noticed we haven't had an Avon book for a long while now.

Melvis, I have emailed the area manager where you are, I am waiting to hear back from her (probably monday now). If you're friend is in your area it will probably be quicker to ask her!

Hi Penky, what a nice first campaign :T Wish mine was like that.
Personally I use 40 books for 230 houses. I leaver them 3-4 days and work from both campaigns at once. It really depends how much collecting and redelivering you are willing to do, and exactly how close your area is - it's surprising how heavy lots of catalogues are, I couldn't carry more than 40 to my area anyway!
  • Evening ladies, i have just got in from prospecting, i hope you are all good, i wil admit i havent read todays posts yet but i am going to do that now.

just thought i would say hi quickly

    Hello everyone!
I started to do AVON 2 yrs ago just started with my family and friends but due to credit crunch I am thinking of going for territories but I am a bit reluctant of what to do about the tax bit. So my question is does everyone pays or declares their income from AVON? And would it affect my husbands working tax credit or anything like that at all?
    Thanks...

    Hi,

I've had two jobs at the same time as doing Avon and I've never paid tax on it. I think someone said a few weeks back, because its commision based you don't need to delare it unless your making something along the lines of 600 per month from Avon. But can someone confirm I actually read that on here?
Proud to be dealing with my debts

With Working Tax Credit I am fairly certain that they take all types of income into account, but the beauty of being self-employed is that they will take your profit as your take home pay, and when you are self-employed you can deduct A LOT from your profit to get it down to a low amount, for example, lets say you start with £200 profit per month, that is a lot of money that would probably affect the tax credits but you have to take off:
    - the cost of brochures
    - the cost of sample
    - the petrol costs of driving to anywhere that is avon related at 40p per mile
    - the cost of running a computer, internet costs, telephone costs
    - if you have a home office in your house that you use exclusively for your avon business you can deduct all of the fees for that room, for example if you have (like me) a lounge, kitchen and 3 bedrooms that makes 5 rooms, if one of those is used for you business you can deduct 1/5 (one fifth) of the following: electricity, gas, mortgage interest, and trust me the 1/5 of your entire years worth of mortgage interest can mean you will have to pay very little, if not zero tax, I have had 2 tax rebates the last 2 years that I have been self-employed!

I know all of this because I went on a course with the HMRC - all about tax and self-employment, and you would be surprised on the number of things that you can deduct from your profit.
