I'm a big fan of the Tesco Fuel Save as you're saving whilst doing your normal shop and it's not just a short lived promotion.

I've also spotted the Fuel Save sign is on the gift card stand in Tesco (which includes cards for high street shops such as iTunes, Debenhams, Next, Google, etc.). This means that I save on fuel while doing my normal high street shopping too as I buy gift cards at Tesco first. Father's Day is also only round the corner so i'll definitely be using this offer for Dad's gift as well!!
  • I've noticed recently that prices differ quite a bit in different towns. At the moment I fill up when I visit Bristol on Thursday nights because it's 97-98p per litre there whilst it's 101-102p per litre in the area where I live.

    just came across this discussion - 97p - 98p / l - dream land!
  • I am confused. Has no one heard of ASDA. It said in July that it would keep dropping its prices along with the markets, and it has. Currently in N.london it is 0.95p a litre, which is 0.2p cheaper than Morrisons
    Enjoy

It wasn't in 2007 when that post was made.

Thank you den32amg but you have sent the same message twice !!

Are you referring to Asda in Colindale ? They are near me, but I haven't checked there in the last couple of days.
Thank you for reading this message.

An alternative to petrolprices.com is a smartphone app called Waze. more of a journey planner (with real-time traffic information), it can provide a list of petrol stations with up to date prices and their distance from where you are at the moment.

Data is crowd-sourced, so you can also update the petrol station's details in case the prices are different.
  • Not long ago I was seeing garages charging between 2p and 10p a litre more for Diesel than Petrol. I wondered why was there such a wide difference back then - were some just exploiting the difference and pocketing a bigger profit on Diesel?

Still more confusing today the price differential has reversed, I got Diesel (Sainsbury, Archer Rd Sheffield) for 109.9 pence, while Petrol was 5p more at 114.9

Waze has the major advantage over Petrolprices.com that it will tell you petrol stations anywhere on your route.

I did suggest to Petrolprices.com that it would be more useful to see the cheapest 5 in an oval between two locations (home and work) than just in circles around three points. They don't seem to have been able to implement this.

Waze is a very useful satnav app, though you do have to be careful as it will take you 10-15 miles further just to cut less than a minute off your journey time. If you manually select a more economical route and then make a minor error from the displayed route, it will recalculate and take you on the longer route again.

I wish there was a website that could tell you the cheapest petrol along the route. Waze has mapping on it's site, but (unless I'm missing something) petrol prices can't be viewed on it.
