Just visited the website for the Shell Bespoke offer, and it's gone down. 'For site maintenance' it says.
Funny that this happens shortly after being featured in Martin's weekly email. Will try again in the morning.0 -

Bespoke registration seems to be working OK today.
It seems to be possible to get several vouchers, but they all have exactly the same number and bar code. I wonder how that works...
Asda is usually the cheapest, but not by as much as 5p per litre compared with Shell.0 -
I have recently started using a free sat nav on my phone (Android) called Waze. Apart from the normal sat nav features, this one enables you to search your near current location for fuel prices.
It is updated by users as they use the garage and I have found it very up to date. For instance: In Wellingborough, Tesco is the obvious choice for fuel as it is near all the major routes. BUT... Sainsbury's are a few pence cheaper and not that much out of the way, especially if you are filling from a low level.
As an aside, the Waze Nav also lets users pinpoint trouble spots and also delete them when they are no longer there.. Worth a look!

Hi all,
My brother in law always tries to get the best deal on fuel, but sometimes this means quite a detour, which sometimes puzzles me.
Based on buying 50L of fuel, and an economical car costing about 10p per mile in fuel, you'd need to save 1 pence per litre to offset a detour of 5 miles (or 2.5 there + 2.5 back) if you take into account insurance, tax, wear and tear, or have a less economical car this will be exaggerated. It's not unreasonable to expect a car to cost 40p/mile, at which you'd need to save 4 pence every litre for 5 a mile detour!
So basically, plan ahead, and don't do a detour!
Safe summer driving to you all.

I get a weekly email from PetrolPrices.com to tell me about the prices at filling stations within 5 miles (my choice) of our home.
There are 3 stations in this range: one each for Jet (the nearest), BP and Murco. The Jet station is on a minor (B) road, whereas the other two are both on trunk roads (on the A10 and the A1122).
I've been keeping a record of the prices given in the 36* weekly emails since last December. Luckily for me, the local Jet station is consistently the cheapest (in only two weeks has the BP station been 1p/litre cheaper - during a special offer).
But the problem with PetrolPrices.com is that it relies on reports from drivers who use some particular type(s) of fuel cards. These drivers seem to stick to main-road stations so, in 12 of the 36 reports, the Jet station has simply not been mentioned. If you rely on PetrolPrices.com, they may not tell where to find the cheapest fuel.
*Only 36 times in this period because they skip the weeks with bank holidays!0 -

The problem is they cannot check every single petrol station. I suppose the alternative is either to get forecourt managers to ring in each day with their prices (would they do it for nothing?) or alternatively ask commuters to ring in (they would need to be deemed reliable).Thank you for reading this message.0 -

If you are going to stay in an unfamiliar town, petrolprices.com is a good way of identifying the large local supermarkets.
[99p bought "next" year's AA road atlas with all the Aldi supermarkets marked on it - learn a trick Lidl ?!]0
