For anyone with the Barclays Rainy Day Saver account paying 5%.

Your monthly interest would have been credited yesterday.  If you had £5k in the account, then take out the interest.  Any surplus over £5k only earns 0.25% interest.

Your current account will have been charged £5 today for the monthly Blue Rewards fee.  You will see £5 has been credited to your Blue Rewards Wallet.  You don't get interest on money left in your Blue Rewards Wallet.  Move it out.  (Back to your current account to negate the fee.)
Thanks for that. Lost £5 though, set up two direct debits when I opened the Blue rewards account (17th), sadly one of them doesn't come out until the 8th. Oh well, live and learn.
That's a shame.  You will still have got a fraction over 2.5% after paying the fee, so not a total loss.

If anyone else is yet to set up Blue Rewards, its worth noting that if you link your PayPal account to your Barclays account, then a PayPal payment will go through as a Direct Debit.  It helps in that first month.

Does Gatehouse pay out profit for monthly easy access savers on the first of every month?

I think so, got mine first thing this morning.
But what date in the month did you open it? Was it the 1st, or perhaps very late in the month?

Not on the first, But Profit is paid on the first.

Another Forumite (a few pages back) reports that he is paid on the same day of the month he opened the account .... which is mid-month. I just wondered if you happened to have opened yours near the end of the month and so coincidently get paid on (or around) the 1st?
  • I was wrong, opened gatehouse account on the 1st of the month.
Could not see it on my phone, so paid on opening date.

Bank of England Base Rate increase tomorrow?
Announcement due at midday. Should we expect some big increases in the rates of our Easy Access savings account shortly afterwards?

Very much doubt it that there will be an instant reaction in savings rates. Next week, may be, or the week after.
  • Applied to open Santander ESaver Limited Edition account 2.75% on 13th October.  Also applied to open Al Rayan account on 27th October.
Now, waiting for both. Is it becoming the norm in UK to wait for many weeks to open a savings account?

No it’s not the norm, with Al Rayan I got stuck on section 4 of the application.
Called them at 9am the next day.
By 9.10am account was open and I had my sort code and account number.
Went onto the app and used the second option, account number login.

Santander, Said open within 3 days.
Looked at emails and first said 3 days next 2 said account open.
    So 1 minute to open.
Over a week for pass codes to get online access.

    Just call them.

If this has happened twice in a row, it might be they can't verify you electronically perhaps.  Maybe some of the info you entered during the applications doesn't match what's coming back on their ID checks.
