Thanks @Daliah and those who helped with my query.

I’ve looked in to the Santander account and it seems as though you do not need a current account with them in order to open their account. Can anyone confirm?

The Barclays rainy day saver caught my eye but you need to have an existing rewards blue account with them - which I don’t.
I didn't have a Barclays current account either but decided it was worth opening  one in order to get access to the 5% Rainy day saver. It was relatively painless just need two direct debits and cycle £800 a month through the account which for me is no problem as I will just add another step in my regular funding of my Halifax Reward accounts.

As a warning for people looking to open a new account with Gatehouse, for me the process required a passcode being sent through the post, in order to enable withdrawals.
Still showing as being under review / not available for new applicants:

Looks like they reopened it now.

    Received from Gatehouse this morning:-

We want to notify you that we are increasing the expected profit rate on your Gatehouse Bank EASY ACCESS account effective 14th October 2022 as follows:

    Current rateNew higher rate
    2.00% 2.25%
Got the email, referencing 2.23% as I have selected monthly interest. Not enough to claim my cash from Santander, Gatehouse account will remain unused.

As a warning for people looking to open a new account with Gatehouse, for me the process required a passcode being sent through the post, in order to enable withdrawals.
Whereas Santander required me to wait for two codes to arrive by post in two separate letters before I could login and make a withdrawal.  With the post the way it is now, that took a week.

They are all trying to achieve the same thing in checking identity but this is as far as things go.

They all have different apps and ways to prove who you are - and if its app based then the process when you get a new phone is also different for each one and not very well explained. Given that they all presumably have to report interest there must be the possibility of a centralised way to prove id.

Also each funds transfer takes a different amount of time and if the bank blocks a transfer it needs phone calls to sort.

So although some things work well these days having multiple accounts as rates change is all still more complex than it needs to be.

@soulsaver, Atom is now 1.9% on its easy saver. Not ToTP worthy, but still better than the noted 1.7%
