I've got a feeling Marcus + Zopa will be making a move shortly.😎

They've been rather quiet for the last few weeks.

    Zopa now showing 2.15%
    Too little too late..
Ex Sg27 (long forgotten log in details)

Massive thank you to those on the long since defunct Matched Betting board.

Has anyone found their transfers to Santander take a while to show? I did some payments before and it was pretty much instant, whereas I just another payment an hour ago and it still isn't showing?

-I guess it depends on who you're paying it in from. I moved £25k from Lloyds earlier and it was in Santander by the time I finished with Lloyds and signed in to Santander (2-3 mins)

Opened the ESaver Limited Edition Issue 1 and checked it was active by using the log in for the 123 current account I closed in 2020. All seems o/k so I have transferred a test sum of £100 to check if it works. It did and the balance is £100 but have just noticed (a bit late) that withdrawls appear to need another Santander account or possibly a current account with Santander.

Now this is o/k because they do offer a basic account with no monthly fee but I would prefer not to have a current account with Santander if possible.

Have I misunderstood their reference to "Online Banking" to mean that I must have a current account with them?
I've still a basic current account with them, but was in the process of sorting out a TSB switch for cashback, so was curious too.

I've just now made a successful test payment directly from the eSaver LE to my Chase Savings account, so I think there's nothing to worry about.
  • I've now opened a Santander E-Saver but only just opened an Al Rayan saver. It said the minum ammount I could deposit was £5K, if I remove the funds and leave a pound in there for future will they close the account? Or shall I just request it to be closed?

Good on Santander, even though I hate their CS.

I suspect they have gone early and priced in future rate rises.  A lot of people will move their savings and not bother chasing other rates.  Plus all those that leave it in longer than a year.   Those bonus terms are always a bit scummy.
I hope it stays open for a while, that way it'll force the competition to up their rates as well, probably across the board of a variety of products in order to stay competitive (easy access, notice accounts, and easy access ISAs in particular).
I suspect it will be gone within the week.  The combination of highest rate and it being a high street name (lots of people still don't trust small online banks).

I believe you can go below 5k but don't earn interest.  Worst that can happen is they email you and threaten to close.

What's going on with challenger banks getting crushed by high street and even car company banks? Is the current economic climate just too difficult for small banks like Atom and Shawbrook to make any profit on loans/credit cards to afford higher interest, while high street banks are raking it in of high mortgage rates? Or are high street banks making a loss the challenger banks can't afford, to win people back?
  • Possibly silly question alert.. If open joint account will interest count 50/50 between me and hubby?
Just my opinion, no offence 🐈
