    What's going on with challenger banks getting crushed by high street and even car company banks? Is the current economic climate just too difficult for small banks like Atom and Shawbrook to make any profit on loans/credit cards to afford higher interest, while high street banks are raking it in of high mortgage rates? Or are high street banks making a loss the challenger banks can't afford, to win people back?
  • Possibly silly question alert.. If open joint account will interest count 50/50 between me and hubby?
    Just my opinion, no offence 🐈

    From opening today a Santander E-Saver (2.75%), to seeing it live online, to funding it, to seeing the new cash in the account and earning interest, took literally ~300 seconds. By far the fastest account opening I've ever seen. Hugely impressive. All credit to Santander.

    I only looked on this forum because I had 5 minutes with nothing else to do lol, saw your latest post so went to my Santander account and thought I would open one, got the message would get back to me within 3 days, by the time I had opened my e-mails the account was approved, I don't think it took as long as 300 seconds , more like less than 60 lol !
    So now to move the money I just moved from Chase to Marcus to Santander....

    Building societies will report it to HMRC as 50/50.

    Good news for savers  :)

    Although the cynic in me says that they need the money / funding ?

    I think the reference letters for Santander always start with OLA which is Portuguese for hello - didn't notice this before!
    OLA = Online Application

    Has anyone found their transfers to Santander take a while to show? I did some payments before and it was pretty much instant, whereas I just another payment an hour ago and it still isn't showing?
    I transferred a small test payment and a much larger sum from my Barclays current account an hour ago and both were visible by the time I opened the Santander app, so the transfer was essentially instant.

    Thank you Santander. My banking affairs have simplified enormously. About half of my regular savers plus a couple of easy access accounts will be emptied and closed in one fell swoop. Coventry, Bank of Scotland, Halifax, Lloyds, Santander regular savers to close, with Bath, Mansfield, SRBS, Loughborough to be emptied. Nationwide 1Y triple access saver to be closed. Al Rayan has days before it too will be emptied.
