Barclays 5.12% up to £5k for existing current account customers (Blue Rewards)

    https://www.barclays.co.uk/savings/instant-access/rainy-day-saver/
Barclays made changes to the Blue Rewards scheme which now make it a waste of time unless you also have a mortgage, loan, life insurance or house insurance with them.

However - for those who don't and aren't current Blue Rewards members, provided you have at least £800 coming in plus two direct debits coming out of your current account each month to cover the £5/month fee, then this might make it worthwhile again.

It says in T&C you will no longer receive the £5 blue reward cash if you open the RD saver. Is this correct? So in effect this saver costs £5 per month.
    What it actually says is

    • You won’t receive a monthly cash reward to your Blue Rewards Wallet for having a Rainy Day Saver account. Your existing monthly Blue Rewards aren’t affected and we’ll keep paying them into your Blue Rewards wallet.
So yes you will still keep the £5 monthly payment, you just won't receive any extra for having a rainy day saver account.

Whilst not getting anything from the account I have kept the Blue Rewards switched on so this is a nice surprise. Account is opened in under a minute.
  • Thanks. That's not so bad as I don't get anything above the monthly £5 anyway.

Would be funny if Chase now went completely left field and offered 2.50% :D

Well Barclays with it's complicated charge £5 and get it back if you jump through hoops (2 x DDs & pay in £800 pm) will get them no more than a slot in the footnotes of ToTP...

And if the rubbish offer that has persisted for the last year means you'd abandoned it & haven't got access now, you'll be impressed with the hoops you need to jump through to even access, er.., the hoops you need to jump through...

Hilarious but it`s not going to happen.
Chase was ahead of the game at the time and done a great job for the new mobiles market.

Yes, it's probably not worth the effort for new customers (and hence only worthy of a mention rather than full inclusion on the list) but it's pretty-much a no-brainer for a Barclays current account holder like myself, who already uses their account for direct debits. Rejoining the Blue Rewards scheme and opening a Rainy Day Saver took around 2 minutes in total via online banking.

For me, Al Rayan is now tops again for my instant access money as I still need a lot more than 6 withdrawals a year
