There was list of documents to prove identity and another list of documents to prove address. We chose to send scans (and only scans) of passport and driving licence, but it could have been a utility bill or something. I agree it does seem a bit much.

Has anyone had to complete a DBS verification recently (to prove that you are not a child abuser or rapist etc.!)? *
There you have to SEND in various documents at least one with your photo on, and another with your name and address from an 'official' organisation eg. Local Council.

*I wonder if they will accept a letter from my launderette, saying that my £50 notes I gave them to clean are ready  :D !!!
Thank you for reading this message.

I completed a DBS (Basic) check about 12 months ago and it was all electronic, didn't need to send any documents at all.

I did one of those last week and was all electronic for me. They wanted passport, National Insurance and driving licence numbers - which of course they can then use to look those documents up.

Anyone getting anywhere with Charter Savings bank? Applied on line three weeks ago for their Easy Access issue 23 and sent off the identity stuff they asked for. Chased them by email but they say they can't advise by email and we have to ring them up. Haven't tried that as that normally means a painful wait. Has anyone else succeeded in opening this type of account recently?
Same here.  Even though I've previously held an account with them, for some reason they wanted paper proof of ID (normally my ID verification is completed electronically for me).  No details have changed since previous account.  I've phoned them a couple of times to chase, got through without any queuing but application still hasn't progressed 🙄

If they lose enough prospective customers, perhaps they'll get their finger out to update their systems.

I opened a 3 month notice account about a month ago. No problems encountered and no ID docs needed

Given all the work done on NHS ID apps and digital ID, one would think it was not beyond the competence of the financial regulatory bodies to come up with an acceptable "electoral roll" type of digital register which once individuals were signed onto the system, would work for all subsequent ID verification.

does anybody know whether this has ever been considered?   It would surely make life much simpler for all parties involved.
That's effectively what the credit ratings agencies provide, so financial institutions will typically conduct electronic ID verification checks with their preferred CRA, as a separate exercise from an actual credit check.  However, there's nothing forcing smaller players to use this method....

I guess that's where the problem is.  There's so much incorrect and incomplete info on the CRA's records that it's surprising that anyone puts too much faith in them.  Trying to correct it is pretty frustrating and hardly worth doing unless it really matters.
