Just remember the FSCS protection does not guarantee you can get your mone when you need it. Sure, it is quite quick to kick in within a few weeks of a provider going bust, but if they enter the zombie state, prohibiting withdrawals to protect their cashflow while not actually going bust, your money may be tied up without access for months until they do actually go bust.
Anyone who saved with DotComunity credit union at the time of its demise will know what I am talking about.2 -

My PO aversion pre-dates the Horizon scandal --- their systems (provided by the Bank of Ireland) were atrocious and so was their customer service. There are plenty of decent other accounts about, usually at better rates than the PO accounts.
Other than that, I'll use any bank that has FSCS protection and allows accounts to be opened/managed online or via an app.
I'm nowhere near having £85k in cash savings, but I still make sure I've got funds with more than one bank in case there's some kind of problem e.g. a system outage. At the moment this is achieved by having £4k with Santander (Edge Saver) and the rest of my instant access money elsewhere.0 -

Has anyone heard about the virgin switch incentive? £1k at 12%, I'm tempted but not sure if it's for new customers only.
