Worth noting also though, that we remain in a period of historically low interest rates. As per the page below from the BoE website, rates did not fall below 5% at any time for over a quarter of a century between 1975 and 2001. In that context rates remain low in historical terms, despite what the wider media would have us believe.ranciduk said:Who cares??!
if you had told me about 18 months ago I would be getting over 5% on my EA accounts I would never have believed it
its fantastic

If only someone was prepared to spend their own time compiling and maintaining a top EA rates table in a 'no chat' thread free of nonsensical banter.VXman said:
Good point. Just to bring it back on topic. What is the best easy access savings account at the moment?Steve_xx said:It's a pity that this thread has lapsed into nonsensical banter, causing an ever longer thread, making it very difficult to glean anything useful that's posted.

Officially the minimum operating balance on the account is £50 so that runs the risk of closure1

Yeah, it was in my diary. Logged in this morning to find out that the issue with online "take money out" option is still not resolved. I've sent secure message asking to withdraw the interest, we'll see what happens. Thinking again, instead I should've opened another £1 account to keep the membership and close the "welcome" because it is useless. But it doesn't matter, I may as well keep my £50 there for now and make a move later.ircE said:For those who keep a quid in Newbury BS' Welcome to Newbury account, note that interest has been paid on that account today.0 -
Not really. "If the balance falls below the minimum operating balance, a variable rate of 1.50% will be paid." https://product.newbury.co.uk/1WELNBY.pdfhappybagger said:Officially the minimum operating balance on the account is £50 so that runs the risk of closure

You pays your money and takes your choice. It's a breach of the account terms
- The minimum opening and operating balance is £50.
Saver makes the choice, I was merely pointing out the t&c's.0 -

I find this table super useful! After a lot of chopping and changing I am now specifically looking for "True Instant EA" accounts (as you call them) with zero (or £1 max) minimum balance and Monthly interest. (i.e. completely flexible accounts). Thanks for tracking beyond the Top handful of accounts
