It maybe of interest to some thinking about opening the Santander Edge Account.  I've been a customer for several years but ....

I've had my newly opened Santander Edge Account blocked from any withdrawals by Santander's Security.  I was only trying to fund my newly opened Edge Saver Account. The customer service agent also didn't know that the terms and conditions say the Edge Saver can only be funded through the Edge Current Account.

I have to wait for the 'back office' to unblock, having been quizzed on whether someone was putting me under pressure to open the account or asking me to lie to the bank.
Did you try to fund the saver account from your edge current account  by the transfer facility in the app or were you trying to do it as a new payee to the Account No and Sort code?
I funded direct from my 123 lite account was in there within minutes.  No issues arose, and used the app.

  • Hi all, I've had a look at the easy access best buys and can't see 1 that fits our requirements. Can anyone else advise? It doesn't have to be market leading interest rate, but >4% would be ideal. The criteria is, it has to managed via app, interest paid monthly and a low minimum pay in (£1000). We already have a Tandem easy access for personal savings, but ideally wanted somewhere to put money for my Wife's tax bill due every year from her self employment. We did open an account from oxbury but then it said this was unable to be managed via the app of on android device...

     Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks

If the rate only has to be above 4 then Zopa will work. So would Chip actually... I thought you would have already looked at them but then I remembered they are not in the table any more.

my first thought was Chase @ 4.10%, but I think you would need to open their current account (which pays 1%) - both pay their interest monthly and don't require any opening balance.
looking on my Android phone, other options would include...
    • Ford Money @ 4.75% (soon) - £1 min
    • Saffron BS @ 4.60% - £10 min
    • RCi Bank @ 4.50% - £100 min
    • Marcus @ 4.30% - £1 min
    • Zopa @ 4.28% - £0 min

Ford Money's Flexible Saver - opening min is £1, rate about to rise to 4.75% (around 4.66% for monthly) on Thursday I think and they have an Android and Apple app - although I've not used it.  I do use apps for other accounts and unless it's an app only account like Zopa already mentioned, some functions will still need to be done via the web site - the apps sometimes have limited functionality where they offer both.

Kroo is a current account, but that has an app and pays 4.35% AER/4.26% gross, paid monthly.

a good point - Chase & Zopa would be app-only; the others I mentioned would all allow withdrawals from their apps.

I could never get the Android app to work properly - worst banking app experience i've ever had... I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Ford Money currently 4.5% going to 4.75% on Thursday.  Monthly or Annual Interest (your choice)  Min £1 to open.  Withdrawals now reach nominated account on same working day if requested before 1pm.  Can manage by app.

Thanks everyone for the replies. The zopa account looks good, based on the fact its app only, so focusing on that platform solely for the functionality. Also the fact it has pots you can separate into, I know my wife will like that feature.

So just to confirm, the zopa easy access pays and compounds interest monthly? I couldn't see that it stated monthly interest on their website.

    Thanks again.

Yes zopa is monthly. Im a big fan of Zopa and would happily go back to them if they upped their rates a bit.
