    Poor old rainforests...
Don't open an account with Hampshire Trust Bank in that case. They send me a letter through the post for EVERY transaction, deposit or withdrawal!

Ditto Secure Trust. They arrive about a week after the event by which time it's a bit late had it not been me making the withdrawal.

I think their printer has overheated with all the welcome packs being sent out  :#

Seriously, though, it's not surprising if they think many people are just depositing £1 to hold the spot till something better comes along (which it probably will) - not worth the postage/admin for them at some point.

The Savings Page hasn't been updated yet. If you try and apply you get this:

Two letters just received from Newcastle - both totally useless TBH. One is thank you for opening account with acc details and the other is time to fund it.  No mention of authentication code to enable withdrawals. It just says when you first log in to carefully check the details of your chosen nominated bank before you transfer funds, Which obviously isn't possible yet.
So don't get excited when you get yours :)
Same with me - applied online Wednesday, two letters received today (Friday).

I cannot see why the nominted account authentification code cannot be sent at the same time.

It shows as 'available' on the website - but if you hit apply - you get the above message.  They probably know that many of the applicants will move in a chunk of money once verified - so have projected their potential funding, and having had a run of account applications have likely decided 'that's enough for issue 1 - let's see what comes in over the next couple of weeks before deciding whether to do an issue 2'.

    Bank authentication code?

I applied and deposited at the end of the application, when it gave the sort code, a/c number and reference
Oh sure. You can put money in. Just try getting it out again without having first authenticated your nominated bank account for the withdrawal :s

"Please note, this product is a limited issue and may be withdrawn at anytime. To avoid missing out, we recommend that you act soon and ensure your funds are received promptly by Newcastle Building Society. We reserve the right to refuse any funds received after the product is withdrawn."

Taken from the NBS "application received" email, decided to fully fund my account in case they stop accepting deposits.
  • Wow! I only opened my Newcastle account a few hours ago - got in just in the nick of time by the looks of it!

I had issues with making deposits into my NBS account.
The initial deposit went fine, but once the account was properly active and I had received everything I needed through the post, my deposits kept being bounced back.
After several emails and even taking to someone over the phone, it still didn't work so I closed the account.
Did you use the account number rather than the application reference number after the first deposit?

It says in the initial email "Your unique reference number quoted above, which should only be used for initial payment to Newcastle Building Society"
I'm still waiting for my activation letter but did a transfer using my account number, and it bounced, so don't think you can until fully activated
You should get an ID code by email today which will let you into your account and then you can see your full account number to make deposits.

I have made 3 deposits to NBS, one yesterday on the day I opened the account and two today, I used the application reference number in all 3 and all have been processed, and the money is in my account.

Worked this time. Think before I used my UserID as reference (one that bounce) rather than login and get the account number.

    So to summarise for everyone
    - On application you get a reference, to be used for initial deposit (though maybe use for subsequent use )
    - On receipt of UserID in email, log into account to get your real account number
    - Can make further deposits using account number (no need to wait for account authentication)
    - If you install app on the paying-in tells you the full details to use to make deposits
    - For withdrawals need to have completed account authentication (using code sent in the post)
