Hi can anyone tell me what this means on my "chip App" when I click on "profile" then on my linked bank it says
    85 days until connection expires.

Every 90 days you have to re-confirm the link to your bank account.

It’s to do with open banking, which, IIRC, has to have it’s connection renewed every 90 days for security purposes.

I have seen some people saying that their nominated bank’s own app doesn’t list an expiry date for the connection though.

Here's a new one on me. multiple withdrawals & redepositing to extract my CHIP bonus have landed me with an investigation. Thank goodness they are now paying proper interest.

Are there any fixed rate savings accounts out there which allow early access or have a mild penalty to do so?

IIRC there is one non-ISA one, very unusual. Best to check in the Fixed Term thread. ISAs are of course all accessible, see ISA subforum.

Same for me from Chip. Contacted via chat and asked what I should supply as I've built up my funds over 50 years and constantly move my money to chase the best rate, They say they initially want bank statements showing where the money was held before I moved it to Chip.

I quite like the Barclays Bonds which allow 10% of your initial deposit to be withdrawn up to 3 times throughout the life of the bond. Not exactly easy access but it’s an interesting option.

I had a source of wealth check after doing my initial deposits.
  • This is why I cba with Chip.

I like the Chase savings account for the fact that while it pays 3% which is slightly below the best access rates, it's the highest among the accounts which are truly 'easy and instant access' - meaning withdrawals can be made to any account (not just a nominated one) and come through as instant faster payments.
